I think it's safe to say the amount of shitty commercials on TV drastically outnumber the amount of good ones. Sometimes the writers try too fucking hard to elicit a laugh, like in those beer commercials with the fake ass Olympics. Have you seen this shit? Who the hell writes the scripts for these monstrosities? It's one thing that the commercials suck, but the suckage is enhanced when they try to spoon-feed you the idiotic humor. It's like being spoon-fed a nugget of shit. That's their whole plan: to feed you the shit so you have to wash it down with beer. Greedy sons of bitches.

Anyway, I'm beginning to ramble, and this post is supposed to be a praise, not a gripe. So without further adu, I present to you the top three commercials I have seen during the past few weeks. (Note: It has been a while since I've seen a couple of them, so please bear with my descriptions, or lack thereof)

Number Three - Madden 2005

This one is great because of the hilarious irony at the end. It begins with shots of a young couple that is very much in love. It shows them frolicking around, kissing, hugging...complete romance. When I first saw this commercial, I almost turned it off, because the grab-ass material was making me sick to my vas deferens. At one point they end up at a cab, presumably to embark on a romantic trip for two. The young man lets his girl in first, and shuts the door. He is about to enter the cab when he sees an advertisement for Madden 2005, which in the commercial is coming out soon. He promptly bangs on the taxi's roof twice, signaling for the cabbie to leave, and as he drives off, his girlfriend sits in the car, dumbfounded. This guy certainly has his priorities straight. Fucking classic.

Number Two - Geico

Geico has made some pretty good commercials over the past couple years. Anything that doesn't have that schmuck of a gecko in it is usually 'A' material. My favorite is the soap opera parody. It begins with another couple, apparently having relationship problems. The girl is angry with her man because he has chosen to be with some one else (I think the name is Jessica), rather than her. The girl becomes very upset with the news, but then the guy says: "I do have some good news."

The girl grins, as if she expected to hear him say that, and says, "You're leaving Jessica?" And he retorts with: "No. I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico." The girl is shocked, and walks away with disgust. The guy ends the commercial with the brilliant line: "I saved. I though that meant something to you." He says it perfectly, with a flawless tone. It was a tough choice, but this one is only second best.

Number One - Degree Deodorant

Here you have it folks, the best commercial on TV. It's quick, entertaining, and it has everything, from kung fu fighting to some one falling out of a car. All this while an up-tempo Chinese gibberish song is being played in the background. It starts with some Chinese guy getting ready for a date. Right after he puts on his Degree deodorant, he is attacked by a bunch of ninja-whores. Some cheesy, yet smile-inducing fighting ensues, with the main character eventually kicking all their asses. He heads outside and hails a cab. Upon entering, him and the cabbie begin to melee, which leads to our hero falling out of the car. He gets up quickly, and wipes the dust off his sleeve to show what a tough bastard he is.

He enters a restaurant to meet his scantily clad date, only to have what is presumably her father karate chop him. Mr. Toughbastard blocks it, revealing his sweat-less armpit. Those at the table sigh in awe, and the commercial ends with Mr. Toughbastard winking. I could watch this one over and over and never get tired of it. Ever.

Those are the top three in my opinion. Don't forget to share yours.

You're all wrong. BEHOLD!

Half-way down the page are links to some of the funnier commercials I've ever seen. The idea is that every car comes equipped with a "Trunk Monkey". You hit the button, the monkey gets out and does something, be it hitting people with a tire-iron, chasing down rebellious teens, or clubbing would-be car-thiefs in the head with a pipe.

Not a bad list. Right now, I think I'm kind of partial the new Starbucks "Glen" ad featuring kick-ass 80's supergroup Survivor.
