It's 5:30 AM right now and I have one hour to kill before the gym across the street opens. It's a community centre, and the fitness area opens at 6:30, but the front office doesn't open until 8:00. Basically, whenever I'm still up at 5:00, I just go over there because no front office means no cost, and if no one's there maybe I'll pick up some free weights. And take them back home. Word. Anyways...

Napoleon Dynamite!

First of all, if you haven't seen the numerous trailers for this movie, you really should. They're pretty fucking hilarious in a geeky, anti-climactic way. I don't know why, really, but I found the entire movie, characters, plot, message really hilarious. The critical, sensible part of my mind found the story to be quirky and half-baked, the jokes lacking, the characters unrealistic, and the whole world permeated with a perpetual sadness. The part of my mind who got into a movie free (I had a coupon) and who had come with no expectations, laughed uproariously at Napoleons elongated groans. (See trailer #1)
I can't say that Napoleon Dynamite was anything groundbreaking, but it was fairly original and unexpectedly likeable. By the end of the movie, I found myself feeling for almost all of the characters. Napoleons Uncle, a laughably pathetic former 2nd string high school quarterback who refuses to let go of good ol' 1982. Napoleon's love interest was likeable. Their relationship, epic. Big mack daddyo that Napoleon is. ("I see you're drinking one percent...So you think you're fat?" Best pick up line of all time, ever.) I've decided to force my girlfriend to wear her hair in a side pony-tail now after seeing this movie. And of course I'm feeling for Napoleon. I think he has parts of him that everyone can relate to. I just love the fucker.

Man, I am WAY too tired to do this movie justice with a review. I don't think the trailers really give a great impression of the movie, but they have some great music. Or maybe you'll hate the music, and then not go see the movie because of it. A bindmoggling conundrum... If you are a staunch non-conformist like myself, who likes to like cool things before everyone else does even if you just googled the songs off of the trailer for a movie that just came out that the millions of people just like yourself are doing at the exact same time, then watch the trailer. If you are not a fag, then just go see the movie.

The scene where he dreams about a plane crash is meant to show his numbness towards the world, how he completely lacks feelings in his relation to society. It also could show his fate if he gets on the plane back to LA. Just watch the movie and impress your friends later.
Wow, this only took me fifteen minutes. Maybe I'll go learn some Japanese or sleep.
