I have noticed many of you engaging in all kinds of programming and technical wizardry I do not understand at all, and so I have decided to ask for advice on some things. This will also serve to remove a truly awful post by me from the front page.
How do I get rid of all the pop up ad things? Apparently some things are stored in a location called HKCR on my computer which I cannot find and delete. Other things seem to be in use all the time so I cannot delete them either. It is very frustrating.
Are there any programs that are especially good?
How do programs keep loading themselves on my computer without me giving the okay? I have started to be suspicious of coworkers but realized if they were going to hack into my computer they probably would do something funnier than barraging me with pop up ads for designer clothing, precription medication and mortgages.
What is the best email to avoid spam? I get about 38 emails a day, about 12 of which I need to read. How do I lower the number of lawyers in Africa who represent a relative of mine who died in a horrific crash leaving me millions who want to contact me?
Thanks for the information in advance. A partial luddite who is sick of having a slow and buggy computer thanks you.

Firefox - best damn browser I've ever used!!!
For spam - best advice I can give:
Use TWO email accounts; one for personal use - only give it out to close friends/family/etc, the second email account is used to register on any/all web sites. Once you've registered your email account to a web site that sells their clients' addresses - you're screwed!

Get copies of Ad-Aware and Spysweeper. Update them completely, and then start up in safe mode. Run both programs once or twice, delete anything they find.
That should take care of it.
Also, increase your internet privacy settings. I recommend using Mozilla instead of IE. (IE sucks.)

Popup blockers = Meh. Some things you want to work will not, and you won't notice what is wrong. Do not use one if you think you will fail to pay attention to detail.
Otherwise the google toolbar works quite fine, and has a popup blocker in it.

Spybot Search and Destroy Version 1.3
Adaware Personal Edition SE
look them up on http://www.download.com They will remove and help protect your computer from pop up ads and such.
also, go into your internet properties up top, under TOOLS ---> Internet options. Go to Security and make sure your INTERNET zone is set to medium. If you find some sites do not work properly, downgrade this setting while using them.

Ad aware and spybot Search and Destroy. Those are the best programs to clear that shit out of your registry keys. Search on Download.com they are shareware/trialware.
Someone else may suggest a popup blocker.
And I love yahoo, it has a bulk folder that catches alot of spam, and with a free 100mb mail box you really don't have much trouble clearing out what they don't (they also offer a 2gb account for 20 bucks a year, I have it and it seems to get alot more of the spam)
That's my good deed for the day, not rating this -2.
