For those of you ( everybody) that don't know me, I was honorably discharged form the U.S. Army 8 months ago. The army was a great experience. Traveled around the world, met exotic poeple, then killed them. Good Times! Good times!
Well, I picked a nasty little habit up while I was in. It was Called Alcoholism. After a 13 month tour in the middle east, I figured that a year wihtout drinking,( yes, soldiers are NOT allowed to drink in the combat zone), I would be able to quit very easily. It worked for a little bit. Then I came home.
At first, it was just a beer here or a beer there. Then it turened into 10 beers. Then, a bottle of whiskey. before I knew it, I had become the full-blown alcoholic I was before I left for Iraq. I decided I needed help.
I enrolled into ASAP (Army Substance Abuse Program) And was barred from getting promoted or recieving an personal citations. Mind you, this was on my own volition, trying to better myself through help. However, the Army saw me as a "bad person with a disease" and prevented me from becoming a Staff Sergeant.
ASAP helped me so much. I was able to quit drinking and find better habits to replace it with. Recovery probably saved my life. Then I realized something....
FUCK SOBRIETY!!
Even when I was drunk, I still got shit done. I never showed up to work, never got arrested and never got the shit beaten out of me for drinking. That and I was able to sleep.
Ever since I cleaned up, I've been dealing withery bad insomnia. I find myself staying up for 2 sometimes 3 days at a time wihtout getting as much as a catnap at work or school. I am in worse physical shape than when I was drinking. My social life has also waned. When I was in Germany, I went to pubs constanly, met tons of girls ,made tons of friends.Now I have 2 friends left.
I went to the doctor 3 days ago. She gave me a prescription for sleeping pills. I haven't slept since I saw her and Ive taken over 5 pills. I am dead tired but I can't shut my eyes and go to sleep.
So have decided this. After I get done posting this, I'm going to Meijer's. I am going to pick up some Cown Royal and some Pepsi. After 10 months of sobriety I've realized that life is so much better when I'm drunk. I think I'll reenlist while I'm at it.

Dude, talk to a doc about post traumatic stress disorder. Lot of us who came back from there or Afghanistan had that crap to deal with .

In answer to your question... I dunno. I guess your boyfriend stationed in Germany is probably more worried about you sleeping wihtn "jodie" back home than your worry about him cheating on you.
As for SGT's time, I Loved training. i dont mind the cold either.
By the way, That crown and coke was fucking SWEET!

I hate to bug you but i had a question...if you had some extra time. My boyfriend is stationed in germany,frankfurt.....i trust him yet i dont....i know cheating is a pretty typical thing....but from your personal opinion do you think its a really fucking stupid idea to stay with him? hes a borderline alcohol as well.
oh about your entry, really enjoyed reading up until the "tons of girls in bars while i was stationed in germany" part.....but everything else was good..
i was wondering if maybe you could try a placebo effect? Like drink o'douls and maybe manipulate your mind into thinking your getting drunk?
Or how about exercising? Get your body so physically tired that you have to eventually sleep. It also releases endorphins...sorry just trying to help...good luck :)

Hilarious. I hope you enjoy Sgt's time freezing your ass off some odd thursday morning at 5:00AM standing with your lbe, mask & kevlar waiting for the 1SG to say "Fall in". (By the way, the bastard is drinking coffee inside with all the platoon sergeants while they bullshit around and laugh about everyone else who has been waiting outside in the cold for the last 20 minutes).
Ah...the memories.

i started drinking when i joined the military, too. when i quit, same thing happened to me. no friends (nobody wants to hang out with some lame non-drinker), i can't sleep, and i have a terrible anxiety problem. the doctor gave me some pills, but when i tried one i felt like i was drunk again, i couldn't rub one off, and i had a terrible nightmare. the next day, i could barely move because i was so tired and out of it.
drinking was killing my liver, though, so i don't know which is worse.
