This is my late submission for SPT. I know it's been over for about an hour, I also know you fuckers are sick of hearing about how the punk scene has changed, but fuck off.

Hot Topic. What the fuck is that shit? When I was a punk, we were fighting the system. When were telling corporate America, "Fuck off. You can't market shit to me if I'm buying plaid pants from Goodwill". The chains on our wallets were dog leashes. We didn't pay hundreds of dollars for a label on our clothes. If you wanted a CD from a band, you had to go see the band and buy their merch. CD's and band shirts were 10 bucks. Stickers were a dollar. It was 6 bucks to get into a show.

The music had meaning back then. We covered everything from politics (Oeration Ivy, Against all Authority), to love (look up old Green Day stuff, especially 2,039 smoothed out slappy hours. They were the original sell outs by the way) and everything in between. We had songs about nonsense, and just not giving a fuck (NOFX). We had jazz with the toasters, reggea with hep cat and even sublime.

Not that being a punk was ever not just another sub-culture, but at least we had convictions we were willing to stand up for. It's like these kids today don't even know what they're doing. They draw an Anarchy sign on their backpack and think they're making a statement other than "I'm a moron". These kids are buying up everything that's been sold to them, they have no heart. They go into hot topic and buy their favorite band shirt, then they go to FYE and buy a couple CD's. Then they go home to watch MTv to find out who they should like next. They're destroying everything we worked to build, and it only makes sense that it's being led by big bussiness marketing schemes, the same shit we were fighting back in the day.

These kids don't go to shows, don't support their local bands, don't know shit about the music, the history, our ideals, what we stood for, nothing. They are punk in name only. They are a disgrace to what we once were. Punk has become nothing more than a group of little kids looking for fiendship. It sickens me, almost as much as these people who put little buddha statues and bamboo plants and shit all over their house without being asian or knowing anything about Buddhism. People, if you're going to fuck with culture, at least learn something abot what you're fucking with.

"these kids today"

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

I need to know why you give a shit at all about any of this.

If you had any common sense you would know that "when you were a whateverthefuck" back in "your day" people from the generation before yours said the same thing about you, your peers and your actions.

Stop being a cliche.
Stop looking in the past.
Stop comparing your interpretation of yourself as a kid to kids today. You were no different then, then they are now. (I have to wonder how old you are - 20-something?) Believing your "causes" were more important doesn't make you better, it only makes you arrogant and ignorant.
What was important to you and what is important to today's kids may be different, but they are the same in that they are dictated by society from moment to moment. It's all relative, and it's laughable when you grow up and learn to look at the big picture, because everyone is a puppet to some degree, including you.

-1 because I don't care about punk music.

Is it just me, or is punk the only type of music where it's listeners have animosity towards each other?

What you are saying is very true, all the little 12 year olds that worship Blink 182 and think they are so rebelious because they have a song about fucking a dog make me want to shoot myself in the face.

Only +1 though because it's been said many times before.

I hate this shit. My best friend used to pull this shit... "what a poser" fuck off...
what really needs to happen, is you need to get over it. WHO GIVES A FUCK? nobody. all you "punks" did was make saftey pins fashionable. there are some good bands, but, contrary to your belief, you dont have to be obsessed with a band to enjoy their music, or identify with them.

Let the morons of this generation do what they want, and leave them alone. get on with your life already.

Too bad you left out the entire 1975-1983 era. When we were REAL punks.

AF? Don't you mean AFI? I hope you do, because I wouldn't mind kicking their pussy little asses. Holy fucking shit, I hate so many "punk" bands that it would relieve my stress from high school by purifying them from this Earth.

I personally disagree. I, an 18 year old, go to punk shows on a weekly basis. There are a bunch of good bands these days such as Antiflag, Against Me, and the everpresent local scene that is always good for a laugh.

None of the people I go to shows with would be caught dead in a Hot Topic because it's fucking retarded to buy "anti-____" stuff from a corporate vendor.

The problem you're having is that you're watching too much MTV and not going to shows anymore.

Punk is an evolving genre, from the Ramones to the Dead Kennedys to Rancid to AF, it will continue to progress.

Death to good charlotte!

Punk started and ended in the 70's.

The first punks were people who didn't want to be like everyone else. It wasn't a fashion statement, they just didn't want to go along with the flock.

It doesn't matter if you buy the shit for a million dollars, or wear dog leashes or goodwill shit, it's all about your mindset. It does not have to be just about politics or music. You don't have to dress in engineer boots and pet accessories to be a "real punk". The first punks didn't even call themselves punks. That was a fuckin' label.

I love the music (Ramones, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Agent Orange, Bad Religion, etc.), and I really hate that these kids today think that they can just walk into a Hot Topic (which is a company owned by THE GAP CO.) and buy a spiked-collar, then go and purchase a Blink CD (It's a sin!) and suddenly THEY'RE PUNK WOOOO! "YAY I'M A PUNK AND IT ONLY COST $29.95 LOLZ!!!"

It's dead, the whole fucking thing is just dead, and it's the people of today that are pissing on the grave.

The same can be said for almost every facet of American "culture"? (we don't have any conception of culture except for what advertising, television, and the corporate PusBags feed us). America has become a lazy, apathetic,soul-less,homogenous, bloated, amorphous, bland thing. Methinks it's time to take this shit to the next level and throw down a little 1776 action....to tune the sheep up. Otherwise we ....just....fade....away.....with a ......whisssppperrrrrrrrr.

the sex pistols were REAL punk. And even they weren't that great. The whole genre, if it can even be called that, is just a huge magnet for the dregs of society.

Good point. No one supports local bands. I've seen some of my favorite bands fall apart due to lack of fan support (funding). I hate the fucking economy brain-washing everyone to buy a cheap POS sticker for seven bucks. Also, my favorite shirts came from the thrift store.
----
What's up with the anti-blink discussion?
I've got no problem with blink 182.
They're doing what I'd like to be doing right now: playing music for a living. I doubt anyone who posted here is doing that. I doubt any of your friends are doing that. And by the way, tough guy who throws ranch, you bought a concert ticket to a blink 182 concert to throw something at them. Regardless of who you were there to see, you supported Blink 182 by buying a ticket. Think about that a little more. 'he-he. we paid blink 182 to goto their concert, and throw stuff that probably didn't even come close to hitting them. we're cool.'
Anyway, I think blinks new stuff isn't as good, but it's chased away the little punk wanna-be's, like the Good Charlotte Girls and the Hot-Topic Whores.
---
anyway - good, true post.

My friend works at a pizza place, we smuggled approximately fifteen tubs of ranch each into the concert, and we stayed to throw them at blink.

You knew when Blink 182 and Bad Religion were touring together that something was seriously, seriously wrong.

It was great that Bad Religion was first, as I thought I'd beat the traffic out of there. Yeah right... Everyone left when I did. The only people who stayed were people who got rides from their parents I think.

You insult the entire "punk" movement by even mentioning Green Day as an icon, sell-out or not.

I refuse to believe they are anything more than some skater chump's version of a glam-band.

you have to go back years further to find real punk.

I agree, because I've seen the change. When girls 2 years ago didn't do it, they do now. The least they do is get a studded belt. The most they do is anything more. I just don't understand, but I'm not a womanizer, so...meh.
