Sometimes, every once in awhile, life throws a curve ball so fast that we don't even see it coming. And sometimes we are too "in the box" to see any kind of solution. Sometimes you have to break to build yourself up again fully.
When he hit me that day, he made it sexual. As he was straddling me, pummeling my face, he told me how hot it was making him. How he hadn't been that turned on in years. How special I was to make him feel like that.
I had wanted rougher sex for a while. Hot, passionate, steamy movie sex. Throwing caution to the wind and going at it. Hot breath, deep kisses, the scent of vanilla candles mixing with the sticky sweet scent of two people madly in love.
I did not want to have my nose broken.
Nonetheless, I made it personal. I felt guilty. He told me it was my fault, and so it was.
Every day of every month that passed after that, my libido dropped, as did my self esteem. He told me I was fat. So I starved. He told me I was too skinny. I worked out all hours of the night trying to build the muscle he found so sexy. As he ate his pasta and drank his wine, he taunted me with it, telling me to make a salad .
I never found it controlling. I thought it was normal.
Sex was painful. Not in the physical sense. A few weeks ago, I was telling a friend of mine how common it was for me to close my eyes, or at least avert them during sex. He would do his thing. In and out. Always slowly. Too slowly. I found myself watching the clock, every minute that ticked by reminding me to moan. Act like you enjoy it Val, it'll go by more quickly.
He was always very quiet. Too quiet. And then suddenly, a grunt, a thrust, his head would go back and his eyes would close, and it would be over.
And I would cry.
The girl that never cries would tear up and look away, waiting for him to leave the room to dispose of the condom. And then the tears flowed like there was no tomorrow.
He never noticed.
It's been a few months since I ended things. I'm doing alright. I've met new people and laughed louder than I ever thought I would again. There is a new love interest whose company I enjoy greatly. Makes me smile even when he's not around. Makes me genuinely happy.
I don't ever want anyone to see me as a victim or survivor or any of that crap. I am who I am and I know what I know. People have been through much more than me. I am in no way playing the part of a statistic, or the role of the abused.
All I know is that it's not my fault anymore. And that I am ten times stronger, ten times happier, and ten times more myself now than I've been in the past 2 years.
My sister and I spoke the other day, and mentioned that it was good to have me back.
It's good to be back.

I haven't been on this site in a while, Val, but I'm glad I came back. I really, really hate to hear this kind of thing...it makes me sad to think that people allow themselves to go thru these situations, and it pisses me off to hear about men that do it. They are, to me, one of the worst kinds of people there are.
