Ok, I have been away a week. Went to cornwall (yes the place with the dire flooding) last saturday morning and got back this afternoon. Needless to say I had a shitty time because of the poor weather but I guess I will just have to live with it.
The first thing I did when I got home was turn on the pc. Its like a disease with no cure, I get withdrawls from being away from it too long. Well, straight away I connect to the internet and head here. What I see on the main page down the left hand side doesn't surprise me, but it is certainly a change.
What I noticed more than anything is Jimbo has got a huge amount of hits this last week and has moved up 4 places on the MVA. Very well done for that. Also I noticed in the most viewed articles the 'Badass Australian Cows' has got another 20,000 hits, or there abouts, and has moved from second bottom to 4th. I have no problem with this, Jimbo is my favourite author here. But all so quickly, its rather scary..
It has struck me that this site is moving so fast that before long people arent going to be able to keep up with it, A lot of noobs, many not exactly worthy posters(like myself) are flooding the site day by day. This causes me to lose track of stuff after a week that used to take 2 or 3 to. I dont know what issue of 'The Future Is Uber' we are on, unless I havent missed any.(although I do believe Gamma is on vacation).
Just wondering what you guys think of this sudden surge of hits and submissions at Ubersite, since I joined a couple months ago I have noticed a definate change in how fast everything goes from the front page, and how little hits I get, and so on. Sorry for the shitty post I haven't much better to do, and the neighbors are blaring Bob Marley from across the street, at 11 fucking pm.

Um... yeah, it's changing. New people will come in. Old people will leave and maybe come back after a few months.
But how is that different from any website, or any organization/community, for that matter?

Also the ratio of good users to bad users among new users has remained practically the same throughout Ubersite's history. In January there was a similar percentage of people who were shit posters, good posters, awesome posters, one post posters, non posters, mass-reviewers, etc. Not all that much has changed other than a SLIGHT increase in site traffic.

Ubersite makes sudden movements. Jimbo got a lot of hits because he was linked on Fark.com for two days. Almost nothing happens over a long period of time on this site. If you ever step away for two weeks, you'll probably miss out on a bunch of inside jokes/site ideas. You probably missed the fact that the second UberMadness is slated to begin in a week or two. Go sign up.
Anyway, I can't stand it when people post about how Ubersite "ain't what it used to be." Have you any idea how many minor transitions this website has gone through? Tons. Have you any idea how many major transitions this website has gone through? Practically none. This site's traffic has pretty much steadily increased over the last year with minor spikes when Bart updates Boredatwork.com, a post gets highlighted on another website, or major spikes when a post gets highlighted on a major website (see: Tom's p2p post and CollegeHumor.com). But you really shouldn't complain about how long your post remains on the front page because with more posts come more readers, so you'll get the same amount of hits.
And to give you some perspective, check out this post:

Most of the new users post once and then fade away.
