Yesterday I cam across a typical mother in today's PC society. Two kids ages 8 and 11. Running crazy around the store asking for everything in it.
"Mommany can I have candy?"
"Oh! Buy me this!"
"Mom, Mikey's pushing me!"
"He called me a girl!"
"Buy me candy!"
She probably told these kids no 10 times. She also tried "talking" to them about their behavior. Next thing I hear while I'm waiting in line is "When we get home you can't watch any TV and you will go straight to your room." Guess what one of the little brats says next? "Thats okay I'll just play my GameBoy."
Holy shit if I couldn't beleive the kid said that! I was just waiting for the lady to beat the shit out of the kid. Instead she just paid for her gallon of milk and told them it was time to go (while they begged for more thing on the way out).
If I would have acted like that in public with my parents I wouldn't have gotten a "talk". I MIGHT have gotten a warning, but usually not. I would have gotten my ass whooped. If not right then and there, it would be back at home with the belt.
Now I'm not condoning child abuse or anything, but you have to punish your kids with force from time to time. If there aren't any real consequences then kids start to lose their sense of right and wrong and become self-absorbed adults with a shotty sense of right and wrong.
Raise your kids right. Whoop their ass.

It was worst of all when I got the "we're very disappointed in you, son." Shit, I still get that. But the wooden spoon was used on my ass more than once, and I turned out ok. Except for those dead 12 year old thai hookers in the trunk.

When I was bad I got "the belt", also. But after awhile that didn't work anymore...I was rebellious in nature.
Then my parents discovered electroshock therapy; after awhile I started to actually look forward to it. Bzzzzzz. Bzzzzzz. Darkness. Come-to. Cotton-in-da-head feeling.
Today as an adult I am a model citizen, except my eyes are crossed a little and I drool alot.
Oh yeah, occasionally I like to kill stuff.

Looks like someone needs to read my research paper called, "Parenting and Psychology". Clearly, you need to re-evaluate some of your thoughts because your article is just plain screwed up. Do you realize that part of the reason that children misbehave is because of the way parents react to misbehavior?!? Think about it and get back to me. I can also send you my paper if need be. You could also check out a book called "How To Behave So Your Children Will, Too" by Dr. Sal Severe. I sincerely hope that you learn something other than your current "kick your kids ass" attitude. It doesn't work.

Every day at dinner my little brother just has to say something retarded or has to make a completely demented arguement while my parents and I are talking. yes beat your kids! I'm glad y father beat the shit out of me when I fucked up. I responded to that better than being sent to my room or having my toys taken away. My dad was cool but he could eb a scary motherfucker when he was angry.

If a reasonable, rational adult can't make a child listen and show respect without resorting to "I'm eight times your size and I can hit real hard", there is something wrong with the family dynamic that no amount of force is going to fix.

So true. In this day and age where kids have so much, it's hard to send them to their room (TV, DVD players, game consoles, pc's), but all of those things can be taken away. If you take ALL of these away as punishment, they tend to respond to that. Ever since I stopped spanking my kids, they've responded more to my punishments. Not many things break a brat's spirit faster than taking away their possessions and making them write a story as to why they misbehaved. Standing with their nose in the corner is an old classic, and works so very well I may write a book on it.
It's not the type of discipline that matters, it's the full execution of that discipline. If you sit on your ass all day and shout empty threats at your kids, in less than a week they'll know that you won't get up off of the couch. Then, they'll push those limits. You have to establish that you mean what you say.
Sitting on your ass watching TV and cursing your kids does not a parent make. I'm still not against spanking as a punishment; it's just not serving myself constructively anymore.

I'm sick of little kids. I'm calling for mandatory abortion, and genocide too. Where's hitler when you need him? I saw this thing on the iscovery channel last night about how hitler was addicted to speed, pretty interesting. anyway, I can only remember gettting hit once as a kid, warnings did it the rest of the time. I wasn't even hit hard, it didn't really hurt physically, it just hurt having my parents disapproval.
