There was no warning. There never is.
It takes hold of me. My eyes instantly water. My taste buds cry out in revolt. My skin is now unclean. I lose some feeling in my extremities as my head lightens and my stomach rolls over. It's too late to flee. The damage has been done.
It is silent. Invisible. It is the foul presence of decay and corruption. It stalks you. If you know it's there it has already won.
Now imagine that you are the sole creator of this force. Imagine what it's like to have something you nurtured from bad to vile throw its rage upon you.
In that moment you understand what you've put those closest to you through. And though there is love and pride for your creation there is the self-loathing for the pleasure you took from their anguish.
Clinging to that self-hatred you repent. From this day forward you will not unleash this affliction on anyone, or yourself, again. To weld this resolve to your word you stand up and make a proclamation:
"I will never have sushi from that place again!"
