So you're anti-war, anti-bush, anti-capitalism, anti-anti-abortion, anti-something eh ? That's all fine. It's great to have different point of views and dialogues in democracy -- whatever that is. Hell, I'm against most of these things myself and I'm pretty outspoken about it. But seriously, aren't there proper places and times to discuss these sort of topics ?
This morning I saw a man bump into a woman while he made his way into the metro. He apologizes, smiles, she smiles back, he makes a generic friendly comment, she replies and discussion ensues. I'm half asleep and I hear them chat in the background for two or three stations until something caught my attention:
Man: yeah, I was raised in Seattle and I've been to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, New York and now here. San Francisco was great and...
Woman: Did you see the Michael Moore movie ? (me: what ?)
Man: Uh...heard about it ?
Woman: I can't believe you americans blah blah blah blah... (me: oh god...)
Man: well...uh... (looking uncomfortable)
Woman: And why do you blah blah blah ?
Man: ... (looking at me like a helpless kitten)
That had me pissed off. The man was being a nice fellow and having a conversation but as soon as she knew he was american she started questionning him as if he was responsible for the US foreign policies based on a biased documentary. How fuckin' rude is that ? Why don't you fuckin' lapidate him while you're at it you dumb bitch ?
This is just one anecdote out of others I witnessed. I was just more annoyed this time. So this is a plea for all of you canadian sermonisers. These are just normal people trying to have a good time in our country, could you like cut them some fucking slack ?

Be nice to the Yanks, be friendlier, don't hold them accountable for the government they elected, how Canadian! The only recourse the average Canadian has is to question the Americans we come in contact with, maybe if Joe American realizes how pissed off the rest of the world is about their degrading treatment of all other countries/cultures there wouldn't be such a tight race in the presidential election. If your average Canadian metro rider is frustrated enough to engage a total stranger in a debate about politics don't you think that speaks volumes about the state of the world, the state of American foreign policy?
