Who is truly the god of manlihood as we know it? Pirates, or Cowboys? My friends and I argue endlessly, but truly, the answer is pirates. Cowboys never really did a whole lot, they were selfish and unimportant in the run of things. Cowboys are idolized in movies and TV, but they really did nothing. The sherriff and his men captured all the bad guys, cowboys were more concerned in looking good and winning the occasional rodeo. They had the easy life. Idolized for being worthless.
Pirates on the other hand, were all for living their lives to the fullest. They were basically concerned with the three things which men today still occupy themselves with: Women, Money and Booze. They were a little bit more forthright in how they got the three sure, but they still had the same basic goals in a little less civilized manner. So honestly I think all guys are pirates at heart, not cowboys.
Maybe the occasional self-centered manwhore would be a cowboy, but no more than that.
