I was walking down the hall in the dorm room the other day and over heard the start of a conversation. So of course being the nosy S.O.B. that I am I stopped and listened in.

Simply put, shenanigans. Conversations--especially of this lack of caliber--do not use long, drawn-out, descriptive sentences. Something like this, I imagine, would be much more halting, and even in writing it from memory, should you posess any inkling of what you're doing (and, assuming you were in this dorm as a student at a college, I should hope you have a college level education in rhetoric) you would have been more accurate in showing this awkward type of speech. That is all.
