I'm currently staying with a friend in his 1 bed apartment north of Miami. Well, more accurately there's 11 of us staying in our friends 1 bed apartment. It's crowded, smelly but a blast.
Anyway, not the point. No, my point is based on an observation: no matter where you go in the world, one console and two games will unite everyone. Namely, the N64 and the games "Goldeneye" and "MarioKart 64". In the apartment are Americans, English and Aussies aged between 19 and 24. Obviously, similar(ish) cultural backgrounds. Similar ages. Similar lifestyles. Guess hwat? We're pretty similar.
Yet the extent to which these games are known and loved by everyone amazes me. No one had to ask how to play them, it seems to be known the world over. In the last week pretty much all we have done when in the apartment is drink, smoke weed and play on the console (yes, we need more exciting lives, but bite me).
So, maybe world peace won't come through negotiations or bombings, but a brew, a smoke and Mario vs Yoshi.

oddbob u legend! Whereabouts in England are u from? Im from Cambridge, done quite a bit of travelling mostly around canada and have had similair experiences involving 'goldeneye'...

I wouldn't be surprised if the Israeli doesn't shoot Mario for being a terrorist, blow up his house, arrest and torture Luigi and build a settlement where his house was. Things are a lot more complicated than you think.
