So yesterday I found myself at the home of a friend, watching what could be described as possibly the worst movie ever, Grind. The only reason I allowed my eyes to bleed over this travesty of modern cinema is because this new friend is what one could call a romantic interest. And as modern culture dictates when two people are beginning to enter the realm beyond friendship, there is a waiting period of at least 4 dates before the man can rip the remote out of the females hand and look at her with disgust while he changes the channel to ESPN, or at least the Simpsons.
In hindsight I see that I should have done it anyway, as I feel this relationship has little foundation to be built upon. At best this girl could be called a trophy wife, excellent on the eyes but yet horrid on the ears and brain. If it wasn't for the massive amount of cleavage that greeted me at the door I would have left immediately after she uttered the phrase, "Do you want to see my pageant pictures?"
However the required mounds of fatty tissue did persuade me to sit for least the better part of two hours, until my eternal alarms went off. If there is one thing I'm good at, it's knowing when I'm not going to get ass. This was going to be one of those occasions. So with a bullshit excuse and a fake grin I made my way towards the door. This girl, in a last ditch effort to keep me from leaving I would assume, asked whether I would like to come back and watch the VMAs with her. I politely said No, and continued on out the door.
I never understood people's fascination with award shows. Whether or not some group of people (who are these folks by the way?) cares for some artists album, or movie, or tv show enough to give them some sort of award has absolutely no bearing on me. What effect could if possibly have on the average joe? Do people feel somehow better because they purchased an album that later won an award? Its not as if you can use these shows to gauge whether or not a purchase of such item is necessary, as by the time they come out a multitude of reviews has already been written.
I think the people who watch these shows are the same folks who buy People magazine and watch E Hollywood Insider, or whatever garbage is on that channel. These are the folks who can tell you who is dating who and what kind of car they drive. The type of people whose lives are so without meaning and interest that they must live through other people, specifically celebrities.
People today as so afraid to be a little different or to be true to themselves that they end up in some cookie-cutter package. You have your prepackage clothes, entertainment, and values. Simply pick from one of the above (Jock, Prep, Outcast, Etc) and a corporation will be happy to fill out the rest. This lack of differentiation creates boredom, and this boredom drives people to worship those that society deems to be of higher caliber. Mainly artists, musicians, and actors.
This type of fucked up hero worship is basically one of the things destroying our society today. People are more willing to read an article about Ben Affleck's love life, then a science book; or watch a show about the True Life of the fucking Partridge Family, then the History Channel. Entertainment is replacing education.

Maybe for a lot of people, knowing who's dating who is just a way of making conversation with others and thus fitting in. Whilst I agree that it is not healthy for people to be obcessed with the lives of others, you cannot blame them for reading about this stuff if it's the only way they can try to reach out to someone they work or live with.
Further more, it's often not easy to NOT read or watch this kind of information. How many magazines, internet sites, tv programmes etc are there on it? The entertainment machine runs 24 hours a day and is everywhere so unless you live in a cave (nice views potentially but prone to being very cold) you will get some exposure to this stuff.
I guess what I am saying is that we should be less hard on people interested in hollywood etc and maybe try to understand why it fascinates them as most of the people I know who are E! watchers etc are quite lonely, poor socialising folk.

Right on playboy. I hate sitting around and not possibly getting some ass. Just like a chick can tell if she'll fuck a dude within 5 minutes of meeting him, I can tell within 5 minutes of being in a certain situation if I'm going to get some ass, or at least head.
And I don't have to tell you you're dead on with the way society and the media are ruining modern america. I can see you know this.
How many teenagers couldn't tell you who fought in the war of 1812, but could tell you how many boyfriends Britney Spears (Who I would fuck, don't get me wrong) has had this year.

"I think most people just need to realize that there are, always have been, and always will be two main branches of music: entertainment, and art. The people who tend to only listen to music for entertainment(ricecar owners, for example), need to learn to appreciate artistic expression, and that art does not necessarily equate with beauty. I will agree with the "intellegentsia" on that level. In turn, they(the "intelligentsia") need to realize that entertainment is a perfectly valid reason to create music. One could even say that it is the most puristic reason, since that is why the msot primitive forms of music were created in the first place"

The entertainment industry is the new religion, like it or not. Hollywood is Mecca, the bible is TV guide and all those shitty ass celebrity magazines. People like J-Lo and Usher are the new prophets.
I fucking hate society.

YES. YES, YES, YES. This is what I've been saying all this time.
The entertainment industry is turning the common man into a mindless drone.

What NerfHerder said is pretty spot on. This isn't an im back sort of post (whatever that is) but more along the lines of a re-breaking the ice.
I have said many times (usually on goodbye posts) that i think its stupid to just get up and leave Uber. You should come and go as you please, but sometimes you need a break.
I never plan to get back to my posting everyday thing. That was just too much work, and i dont have that much interesting stuff to talk about. I'm not the type of person to post just to post. So i will be around more, but still less than previously.

Get out of my way,
can't you see I'm from L.A.?
Yeah, I met Slash, I've got a rose tattoo
I bet I know way more people than you
I just love this town,
My girlfriend 84 pounds
And works at the Cathouse where I get in for free
She pays the rent while I watch tv
When we go out tonight,
Gotta get my hair just right
Tight black pants and blue suede shoes
I'll get my picture in Rock City News
Gotta get those flyers out,
Might meet a talent scout
And he will talk contracts with me
My fame and fortune and MTV
Rock City News...

This doesn't seem like an "I'm back" kind of post. More like a "I'm settling back into Uber, gimme a second will you???" kind of thing.
So...are you back? Or just tempting us with this quasi-morsel?

Welcome back. I feel the same way, but have you ever taken the time to think about what award you would get and what category you would fall into in receiving said award? Yeah, me neither.

I'm quasi-ashamed to announce that I watched the VMAs last night.
But only about 15 minutes. My favorite band (The Polyphonic Spree) was playing, and I wanted to see the looks of "what the hell?" on the faces of the teenyboppers.
