Here is an update from the convention.

First of all last night was R the party. It was supposed to be cool, lots of celebrities. Unfortunately for me, they had a VIP room and I am not a VIP so I had to settle with shaking Don Kings hand and being disturbed by the fact that the kid from Jerry McGuire still looks like he is 8 years old despite the fact that he is I think about 15 or so.

Tonight was the convention. I missed several parties because I was actually attending the convention. The speeches were pretty good. If you have read my work you will realize that I wasecstatic when Rudy started making fun of giving the terrorist Arafat the Nobel Peace Prize. Some of the speeches were good. The Republicans definitely had an INCREDIBLE singer for Amazing Grace. They also has a muslim doing the invocation. I was polite for him and for the subsequent muslim speaker from Iraq both of whom said peace be upon you in Arabic, to which I want to reply we are trying to have peace but unfortunately your prophet taught in the Koran in all the later passages that me and my people should be killed. People can continue to call the westernized corruption of Islam the true islam if they want to, but the Wahabi school that hates us is closer to traditional islam and the clerics in Sudan, Egypt, the Phillipines, Indonesia, Chechnya etc are not all a lunatic fringe while a tiny number in America and Europe represent the "real" face of that religion.

John Mccain...thanks so much for quoting FDR. He is a real hero to us Republicans. Are you trying to make us feel even worse about W and the deficit? FDR was a communist. Arrrggghhh it was so annoying to listen to his speech because the only emotion he can do is anger. His last line was good, the rest of the speech, notsomuch. We are all one, we are all humanity, we are all one baby something like that. I did not enjoy it too much.

Moore was there writing because USA Today is a typical hypocritical media outlet who fired Anne Coulter but kept fattie Mike on the payroll. I liked the comment from Mccain about not believing a disingenous filmmaker but I would have had more valid criticisms. Like, "Moore, how do you feel about being a person who personally profits from human misery?" Or "Mike how much have you done for Flint Michigan?"

Robert Smigel was there with Triumph the Insult Comic on his hand. I know Smigel from his work on SNL and I know he is a flaming left liberal but I must say I was much more thrilled being near him than sitting near Stephen Baldwin. Smigel is funny enough that the fact I disagree with about everything politically does not overcome my massive respect for his ability. My admiration is similarly not dimmed for every band I love despite the fact that half of them seem to be on tour against Bush at the same time.

Finally the reason I decided to write. Sean Hannity is running neck and neck with Moore for people I dislike. While speeches are being given talking about the horrors of September 11th, I heard a yahoo clapping and yelling "hey sean!" and I wanted to walk over and punch him in the face (an irrational impulse I know) for being such an insensitive jerk but then I saw why he did it. Hannity apparently thought that tonight was not a convention but rather an opportunity for him to gladhand. When he was not fixing his hair or having his makeup reapplied by his girl he was yelling to people and creating meet and greets as the convention continued. Sean you meglomaniacal jerk, I liked you when you were a hothead like me who ranted on Atlanta radio, and nothing since then has made you more qualified than me to comment (in fact I have continued my education and gone to law school which makes me perhaps more qualified) on american political or legal issues. You are like me a college radio DJ, you just decided to spend the rest of your life commenting on others instead of doing something. Like an art critic who found his profession because his paintings sucked, you do not work in Congress, or propose solutions. It was fun to listen to you as a teenager when you were on in Atlanta, but then again I was a teenager. Perhaps I am overreacting, but your preening and complete obliviousness to what was happening on center stage (you were not standing on it, that was the fox news media stage) made me strongly dislike you in a way I usually reserve for liberal women named Barbara and Celine Deion.

P.S. Protesters have for the most part been pretty nice. God bless the First Amendment and the freedom to dissent. You are still wrong and I am right but at least there has been more civility than I was expecting. Your signs like "Go Home You Jerks" have for the most part been juvenile and unenlightening, but some of them like the Jesus is a liberal ones have been thought provoking and interesting. I love you as fellow Americans (maybe Mccain did sink in a bit) but also because we usually share the same disdain for corporate greed, homogenization of culture, music, art and even clothing. Well that goes for the well dressed liberal protesters, not the bizarre and freakish ones. If you traveled to this and are leaving after to go protest something else, we probably have nothing in common, but if you are just a new york liberal who decided to hold a sign, we probably both miss Eliot Smith and Jeff Buckley and would agree on a surprising number of things.

Good review, I can imagine it being pretty intense. It's funny how celebrities and VIP's sell politics and foriegn policy isn't it? No one is innocent of that. It's all big $$$ in my opinion.

Why doesn't hidden101 want a job? Because he's mad that it will most likely be a republican who hires him and he hates to even think about this.

And to answer Hidden's question: HOW LONG ARE THE REPUBLICANS GOING TO USE 9/11 TO STIR UP EMOTION?

They are going to use 9/11 as long as the democratic candidates insist on using Vietnam to stir up emotion. You see, its a game of keeping up with the Jones' where the stalemates are repeatedly beaten into the impressionable public. In all honesty, Vietnam shouldn't be much of an issue nowadays, but 9/11 is an event that we are still feeling the aftershocks of. We will continue to feel these effects until we are out of Iraq and the Middle East entirely, which hopefully will be soon.

=======================================================================

but Republicans have been using 9/11 to justify everything they do and i'm getting tired of it. Kerry uses his Vietnam service to show that he wasn't a coward like Bush was when it came down to it.

i thought the Republican convention was a huge crock of shit. i didn't see anything except bullcrap about 9/11 and Iraq and attempts to stir up emotion. sure, there was a lot of bullcrap about Kerry's Vietnam service at the Democratic convention that i didn't really care about, but they also talked about making this country a better place. they talked about fixing some of Bush's fuck ups. like our economy that is in shambles right now. you'd think Bush would have learned a little something from Clinton's success, but instead, he went right back to the same old formula daddy and Reagan used to funnel more money to the rich and drive up a staggering defecit.

and yes, we could be attacked again. probability- not very likely. the reason 9/11 happened was lax security. we don't exactly have that anymore now, do we? not to mention, if some asshole with a box cutter tries to take over a plane, they will get their guts stomped out by the other passengers. the reason no one did anything on 9/11 is because they were following standard hijacking procedure, which was to keep your mouth shut and do what they want. those poor bastards thought they were going to land somewhere safe so the hijackers could negotiate their demands with law enforcement. could somebody load up a van with explosives and blow up a building? hell yes they could. however, instead of telling us we are going to fight terrorism, i'd like to see our government take steps to PREVENTING it. as in, not pissing off the Arab world so much.

and yes, i am unemployed... because i just got out of the military. i just got back from an interview for an engineering job that travels all over the world for the military (including hotzones like Iraq). i've only been out of the military for a month. not to mention, i'm looking for a job in Chicago, and i am currently residing in St. Louis. i've been offered plenty of jobs here. i just got offered a senior position as a systems engineer last week, however, it was here and i'm trying to relocate. but, until i am offered the right job, i will remain jobless. so go ahead with your insults about my unemployment. i'm getting unemployment checks and enjoying my vacation, and when i do find a job i like, i'll take it and be better off than you assholes that thought you were insulting me.

I could have went as an alternate delegate, but I turned the offer down. Maybe I'll go sometime when I'm older, and I have vacation time to burn.

One observation that I made from watching at home is that the convention was aired (in my area) only on PBS/NPR (with semi-negative commentary), Fox News, CSpan, and the other news channels. I remember how the DNC was aired on every other channel on the dial. So, the media isn't liberal?

Don't get upset at McCain for quoting FDR. Now is the time for our people to come together rather than divide ourselves. If we keep on holding grudges against our own people, we are only defeating ourselves. I hope to see a McCain/Guiliani ticket in '08.

Hidden go back to the unemployment line. Do you honestly think 9/11 can't happen again. If your misguided party gets into office the chances of it happening again will go up. You can go understand the terrorists and I think I will sit here happy that we are killing them in Iraq.

tinactin, Hidden is an ultra-left wing socialist nutcase. Either that, or he is just so filled with hate against all the republicans he can't see straight.

Look at his posts praising the democrats for everything and republicans are basically the Devil.

Hidden is a worthless sack of shit.

Hidden101's logic: If you do not demonize the republicans, then you are shit.

He tries to act intelligent, but he is simply filled with hate. He might as well keep calling the Republicans nazis and Democrats are heroes to all mankind. Common sense says this is a load of shit from both sides and they both fall somewhere in the middle.... But Hidden does not have common sense.

All you have to do is say "Hidden, I'm voting for Bush." to let him start a childish tirade. If you were his friend, up until that moment you were a great person. Now you would be the devil as well. He spouts "Free speech!" until you disagree with him and then your a moron.

I wish I had a videocamera to videotape him watching Zell Miller's upcoming speech. I can already see it.... he's cussing and swearing at the TV. Tears are rolling down his cheeks as he turns red with anger. "You traitor!" He'll shout repeatedly. He's the classic socialist.

Hidden101 is off his rocker.

It was my hope that we all can agree to disagree and honor each others decision for voting. You would think it's our own choice. It is Hidden101's hope that you vote for Kerry otherwise you must be an _____________________(Insert insult here)_______________________.

Fuck you, hidden...you are a miserable, worthless piece of trash.

Thanks for the update. I didn't see any coverage and there's little in the web news.

Ignore hidden by the way, he's an unemployed, friendless, bitter little thing.

i'm angry because i can't believe how utterly BAD this convention was and how people actually thought it was worth their time. i wanted to choke the fuck out of the guy singing amazing grace. HOW LONG ARE THE REPUBLICANS GOING TO USE 9/11 TO STIR UP EMOTION? when people go on emotion, that means something else had to go, and that something is logic. all they talked about was terrorism. well i'm tired of it. HOW IS BEING STRONG ON TERRORISM A FOCUS THAT MAKES SOMEONE WANT TO VOTE FOR YOU??? JESUS CHRIST, THE TERRORISTS GOT LUCKY. IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN. WHEN ARE PEOPLE GOING TO REALIZE THIS???

i'm sorry, but i'm more worried about the state of our terrible economy that Bush fucked up so bad, or our educational system, or the environment. this "war on terrorism" is so fucking trivial. i want a political party to fight for things that will improve my life and the life of the family i plan on having in the future and being "tough on terrorism" and blowing up Iraq just ain't gonna cut it.

Normally I'd give you a +1, but I have to counteract Hidden. Why the hell are you so angry, hidden? I can understand that you didnt agree with his points, but it was written reasonably well. People are entitled to divergence of ideas. Damn! Calm down, fella.

and you know what else? why don't the fucking Republicans talk about trying to understand why the terrorist hate us, instead of blowing up countries like Iraq for their own personal agendas? there's a reason the terrorists want to fly planes into our buildings, and it ain't because they're nuts, and it sure as hell ain't because "they hate our freedom". it's illogical. they hate the things we do in their part of the world. i'd be pissed off, too. it's pretty stupid. we piss them off, they retaliate with terrorism because it's their only option, and then we go stir some more shit up. unbelievable... what's even more unbelievable is how many people fall for the Republican's bullshit. god, this country is full of morons.

you're a moron. a serious fucking moron. i watched about as much of it as i could stomach, and the speeches WERE NOT good, and they played upon people's emotions with that amazing grace bullshit to make them feel stronger and be more loyal for their fucking cause. all they did was talk about terrorism and Iraq. it was like a broken fucking record. and Rudy fucking started talking about how "the terrorists heard from us" and he starts talking about Iraq. last time i check, Iraq didn't attack us. jesus fucking christ, it was the biggest bunch of bullshit i've ever seen. there was so much wrong with what i saw tonight that i could go on for hours, but i really need to get my ass to bed.

ok, you just said "i'm right, you're wrong" and then you said the protesters were being juvenile? wow.

you know what they should have talked about? how FUCKED UP the economy is right now and how it's their fucking fault by sticking to their supply-side economics, when they know damn well Clinton had the right formula.

+2 for being intelligent and not BLINDLY partisan even if someone accuses you of it, they're wrong. You point out the good and the bad...something alot of people can't do when discussing politics.
