I recently picked up drawing as a side hobby. (More sketching, really.) I needed to try something new, something different, something that I suck at. And then I needed to get good at it.
See, I already have lots of hobbies. Guitar, snowboarding, kendo. But these are things that I have a natural talent for. I needed something that I had absolutely zero talent in, hence art. I'd like to think that within the few weeks I've been trying, I have become a decent artist. But I just realized something today: Those who can't draw... draw porn.
Seriously. Look at yourself in the the mirror sometime. Take a look just before you jump in the shower. Bare skin is easy to draw, huh? Just one freaking line. Yeah, there's a few curves at the tits and ass, but overall bare skin is cake. Now, after you get dressed again, take another look. Are you wearing a button-down shirt maybe? A blouse with the frilly things on the arms? Maybe a tie, or a pair of cargo pants?
Do you know how hard it is to draw that shit? No way in hell I'm good enough to draw all of that on someone. So my drawing ends up in the buff.
CONCLUSION:
- Those who can't write, write manuals.
- Girls who can't act, get in porn films.
- Artists who can't draw, draw toon porn.
NOTE TO OTHER ARTISTS: If you can't draw in her clothes, then don't draw on here naughty bits either. As long as she looks slightly androgenous, you can claim you just haven't gotten around to the clothing yet.

Ridiculous.
You admittedly can't draw, so what drug are you taking that makes you think you have any glimmer of knowledge whatsoever to pawn off as accurate, researched advice?
Pull your head out of your ass.

Now I am utterly confused. Was this written to me?
I admit that I cannot draw, and I did not attempt to give this out as advice. I have seen Loren's drawings, and I am very immpressed. However, this was written to poke fun of my own inability to draw quality art.
Why the negative feelings?

JinkyWilliams-
You get better at drawing clothing once you understand how it works. You need to have a fundamental understanding of the body and its mass, and then the next step is to understand how different fabrics drape over surfaces. when they fold, when they ruffle. "

Yes. To put it simply, it's an understanding of human anatomy.

You get better at drawing clothing once you understand how it works. You need to have a fundamental understanding of the body and its mass, and then the next step is to understand how different fabrics drape over surfaces. when they fold, when they ruffle.
Sure, you can just try to draw what you see with none of the above understanding, but then it becomes disproportionate. And oftentimes if you've no understanding of a mass, it appears very flat and nondescript.
Find a skeleton (preferably a three-dimensional one) and start drawing it from different angles. And then shine lights on it and do light studies.
Do contrast studies where you use no lines, and then do contour studies where you only draw line.
After the skeleton, maybe take some life drawing classes, or find some life drawing books. The only way to accurately and efficiently render a human body is to have a fundamental understanding of human bodies (proportions, muscular groups, tendons, etc).
You can copy from anime and other cartoons, and you will get decently far by that route. But your drawings will likely still look flat and formless, with no real defined parts or articulation of joints and musculature, and clothing will just be baloony, or if you find a picture that you really like, you'll likely just start drawing the same clothes on everyone, from the same angle, giving everyone the same proportions. I did that for a long time. Taking life drawing classes and doing the steps I've layed out above really helped me to get some definition realism to my drawings. Not that I'm a master or anything, but I have the fundamental understanding of how to get to be a master if I put the time into it.
Hope this assists in some way.
Stay orange.
