The coyotes are singing tonight.

I can hear them, their voices carried across the vally by the midnight wind. I can see them in my minds eye, dancing, jumping, carousing in a circle, their prey surrounded.

A midnight feast.

One jumps in and snags a piece of flesh in its powerful jaws, ripping the meat from the bone. The others watch, careful not to get in the way of the pack leaders solitary feast. They will wait for him because he is their leader; the mightiest member of the pack.

The deer lies lifeless, dead eyes watching as the coyote tears at what is left of its earthly body.

After the Alpha is done, the rest of the pack will fight over what is left over. Each morsel gained, a small treasure guarded with life, if it is so deemed. None of the body goes to waste. Heart, liver, intestine, it is all a well earned meal and a hard won trophy.

They are heartless killers.

They are healers as well. The legend is that they gave man the gift of healing. They communed with man and smoked together, becoming friends and passing gifts. Man accepted these gifts and used them for good. The legend is lost now and we live as adversaries, creating our own separate existence exclusive of each other.

We are both. Healers and destroyers. Healing for good, destroying for survival.

Coyote......Man.....mutually exclusive yet bound by legend.

Tonight they sing. They howl. They beckon to me. Like a siren song I feel compelled to follow. To see the ritual, to join the feast. In my mind, my fantasy, I am on all fours bounding through the brush. Following the call. Relying on instinct to get me where no man has a right to be. To join what no man could imagine joining. To be tested, to be humbled, to be free.

I want to join the pack. Run with the fleet of paw. Taste the raw flesh that brings life. Feel the blood on my lips, the muscle between my teeth, the fur still warm with the kill.

I want to sing as they do. I want to feel the joy of triumph and the desperation of real survival. I want to feel the fear of death and the ecstasy of life. I need the unbridled passion that only base instinct can reveal; that only raw emotion can help surface.

Let me feel your dance and hear your voice. Let me join your ranks and experience your hunt. Let me revel in your joy and wallow in your sin.

The coyotes are singing tonight and the moon is smiling.

The night is alive.

Judas, I'm so busy I have no time to read good posts anymore.

I'm glad I extended my day a few extra minutes for this.

not my favorite DoaM, however it was still very well done and better than 95% of the crap that infests Uber nowadays.

When did these titles get abbreviated?

I only abbreviate them when there is something other than "Diary of a Madman" in the title.

Nice piece Big Man!

It reminded me of something I wrote ages ago.

The Cry of the Closet Anarchist

Another Sunday morning.
Motor mowers.
Normality.
Insulating and stifling.

How I long to run naked
Baying through the streets
with the hounds of anarchy
in the swift hot pursuit
of creativity on the edge.
Surging in ecstasy.
Rattling the windows
and shaking apathetic
suburbia from it's smug
somnambulism.

He's fucking insane. He probably doesn't even remember.

One moment he's eating flesh, the next minute he's waking up in his closet wondering how the fuck he got there and why he's feeling so scared, and now he's sitting out in his front lawn at midnight fantasizing about the freedom and visciousness of nature, wishing he could participate on the basest of levels.

If the authorities ever get ahold of his diary, they're going to wonder what took so long to catch him.

He's slowly degenerating I think.

Damn, Mike.

Homer: But wait. You can't kill me for being Krusty. I'm not him.
I'm Homer Simpson.

Fat Tony:
The same Homer Simpson who crashed his car through the wall of
out club?

Homer: Uh ... actually my name is Barney. Yeah. Barney Gumble.
