The UberMadness schedule has changed.
UberMadness officially starts Thursday, September 9th.
All time U.S. Eastern.
Rounds will now be starting on Thursdays. Users will have from Thursday until 10 days later, Sunday NIGHT at midnight (technically Monday morning) to enter their post.
Voting will run until Wednesday at 8 PM. The updated bracket and titles will be out by the next morning.
For round one, group one (yes, I KNOW you don't know which group you're in yet, I will tell you Friday or Monday) will get their titles on the 9th. Group two will have their titles on the 16th.
The rest of these dates reflect the START of each round.
Round 2A (128) - 9/30
Round 2B (128) - 10/7
Round 3 (64) - 10/21
Round 4 (32) - 11/4
Round 5 (16) - 11/18
Round 6 (8+8) - 12/2
Round 6 ends on 12/15 - then HOLIDAY BREAK
Round 7 (4+8) - 1/1/2005
Round 8 (2+10) - 1/15/2005
Tourney ends on the 28th of January.

I don't have the complete bracket finished yet in a nice, drawn sort of way, so I decided to present you guys with the full seeded list. The advantage of this is that there is no way for me to really present the scores that resulted in the seeding list in the bracket, so this list lets you know where the judges and computer think you stand.
The full bracket will be out in a couple of days.
Unfortunately, Ubersite doesn't allow tabs, so I can't present this data in a natural looking way.
What you're looking at is everyone listed from highest to lowest rated.
That number was calculated by:
1. Four judges, each of whom handed out a score of 1-10 for each contestant. The judges were youarsoghey, FilthyAssistant, JMG114, and William_Q_Percy, which I think was a nice spread from old to new. NOTE: Razor was NOT a judge. Take your complaints elsewhere.
Repeat: I DID NOT SEED YOU. I JUST INVENTED THE PROCESS.
2. Computer Rating = Avg. Rating + ((Hits/Posts)/1000)
Note: There are NO 15 or 16 seeds, those are all byes.
Note: To get a jump on who your opponent is, subtract YOUR total ranking from 257, then look up the result.
Example: Let's say I'm DonkeyOnTheEdge, #52 overall. 257-52 = 205, so my opponent is Darko. If you are ranked 40th or better, you have a bye in the first round.
Congratulations to jimbo, who now has a shit lot of pressure to live up to, but also in theory the easiest path. Glad I'm not in your shoes, pal.
Just a thought for everyone feeling underrated - prove it. Some people who got no love in the seeding committee last time went quite far in the tourney. Others gave up. Your call.

Walrus- Heat is calculated by the number of reviews you get in a short amount of time. Your own reviews don't count toward heat, and other users' ratings don't count toward heat, i.e. me and koolmang. For every review you get by another user, you get a heat point. For every hour (I think) that you don't get a review, your heat total goes down.

The matchups are decided by the seeds you have. For instance, Jimbo is going to have the lowest seeded #2 in his bracket, so Gent, look forward to a you v. Jimbo match (I think). Then I believe Jimbo will have the highest three seed, lowest four seed, highest five seed, etc. etc.
I think that's how the bracketing goes, but I'm not completely sure.

Now that the bickering and complaining is over, let's discuss what matchups we'd like to see. First off, I myself would like to face off against those writers I look up to:
Espo, Smurfs, NerfHerder, JMG, WillZone, comicbookguy, or Method-- I'd like to face any of these guys because they, like myself, write mostly comedy pieces and it would be a decent matchup.
Kristen vs. Kaelic would be an interesting matchup, as would Electro vs. Habeeb.

Now that the bickering and complaining is over, let's discuss what matchups we'd like to see. First off, I myself would like to face off against those writers I look up to:
Espo, Smurfs, NerfHerder, JMG, WillZone, comicbookguy, or Method-- I'd like to face any of these guys because they, like myself, write mostly comedy pieces and it would be a decent matchup.
Kristen vs. Kaelic would be an interesting matchup, as would Electro vs. Habeeb.

Unlike most of the people railing against you, I do not resent you speaking up... nor do I resent Prof. FF for giving his two cents.
There was no way to get around byes. It is a natural result of having a number of players that does not equal a power of two. If we had had exactly 128 or exactly 256, there would have been no byes.
My principle was that everyone who wanted to compete, should.
What would you have me do? Hold preliminaries? That's EXACTLY the same thing as giving out byes, just presented in a different manner.
I did it with byes this time because it's actually a better model to present the data, and we don't have to come up with some kind of super formula for seeding people after the preliminaries.

cool, while I won't dispute that you started to read articles in 2003, my gut tells me that you didn't exactly come here and read articles every day. You didn't get into Uber enough to register until now? To complain about two quality writers who you feel were unfairly seeded? Your "expert opinion" is about as valid as a bag of potato chips as far as I'm concerned.
Besides, as we've been saying all along, if you were paying attention, seeding doesn't really matter. Write quality post after quality post and you will win.

I believe that having a bye is an advantage. If you want to dispute that then you are the hardhead, not me.
So, the top 40 seeds get a bye. included in that top 40 are people that I feel that I outmatch mathematically and or outmatch with talent. If you want to dispute that, I can understand because talent is relative.
So what number do I feel I should be? #58 with a bye or #58 and no one has a bye. Or, #200 with a bye or #200 and no one has a bye. The number on the list is not the issue. How many times do I have to say the same thing for crissakes!

Jeremy and crew, you should have just waited to post the seedings for each division instead of posting the numbers. If there were no numbers and no ranks from 1-216, none of this conversation takes place. People only see the seedings they don't see that this user is ranked higher than this other user.

Also, this is the last time I will discuss byes, so read carefully.
The byes are a direct result of the number of people who signed up for the tournament.
Because we have more than 128 people, we are in a 256 man tournament.
Because 216 people signed up, there are forty byes.
This is not really different from having preliminaries, just a different way of presenting it.

Do you honestly think that the four judges sat around thinking, "Hmm... I like this person, this person, hate this person, blah blah blah, MickGinny posts redhead porn so he gets a four..."
No. There was no petty shit like that going on for the seeding. If you want the list of what each judge ranked you, I'm sure all you'd have to do is ask them.
That being said, I'll reiterate, since a lot of your anger seems to be addressed to FA and a little bit toward me.
FilthyAssistant has written 34 posts, not a one of them negative or even under 1. She deserves her seed as much as anyone in the top 16.
Also, if you think the judges are playing favorites, you can rest assured that that isn't the case. I have never spoken to Percy or FA off Uber, so we're not all buddy-buddy like you may be thinking. So why would they do me any special favors more than anyone else? The answer- they wouldn't. And neither did Jan or Jared. You're just a bitter old man with a limp dick that has nothing better to do than piss and moan about his internet pride.

You know this is being argued as to the seeding position and I admit that I have made that an issue. But the number is not really the issue. The issue is those who are ranked 40 and above are getting an advantage with a bye. That is the nuts and bolts.
What is the advantage? One less chance that a superior writer will be knocked out by a fluke. JMG was the favorite horse last time and we all remember that upset.
If I had been ranked where I am now but there was no advantage, for having a higher rank and everyone was playing on a level field. This argument would not have occurred.
If it was not so blatantly apparent that certain people received high seeding that was not based on their skills, and there was a bye for those who truly deserved a high ranking, this argument would never have occurred.
One last thing. I am right.

Take away the 10 I got for being a judge and I'd have a score of 28. Let's assume the fourth judge chose to ignore everything I've ever written and gave me a 4 (the same mark given to people with no posts) - I'd have 32. Add in my computer rating and you've got a final score of 34.32. That's still a #2 seed, MG, even with the lowest conceivable fourth vote for someone with my posting history.

Each judge compiled their ratings in private, not knowing that anyone other than Razor would see them. We passed them to Razor, who compiled them and then showed them to us *after the rating was over*. There was no judgely back-slapping, and no cocks were sucked (that came later - and let me say this: we all have a lot to learn from JMG's deep-throat technique.)
The irony of the allegations of favoritism amuses me no end, because there is one person, one in that entire 256, for whom my vote was biased. My first intinct was to give him a 10 because he's a fucking amazing writer who has the proven ability to excel at almost any genre, but I knocked him down to a 9 because I was worried that the fact that he's my friend in real life was somehow clouding my judgement or making me over-generous - I was worried my affection for him was leading me to "rate the poster, not the post". He was actually penalised (penal..hah) by favoritism, rather than being rewarded by it. I think that blows any and all allegations of back-handers out of the water, don't you? Also interesting to note is that every single other judge independantly gave him a 10, and rightly so.
Anyone not happy with their ranking, apologies - I will happily bow down to you and flaggelate myself in penance (pen...hah) when you slaughter the competition.
Anyone who continues to pursue the "I'm taking my ball and going home" hissy fit (a la Bob & MickGinny) is welcome to anally violate themselves with a combine harvester whilst sucking on my left breast.
Man the fuck up.

Who the fuck cares what your seeding is? I'm #149, and I don't really give a shit. If I think I deserved to be seeded better, then I'll prove it, but their method of seeding is completely mathematical, and there is no bias involved. If you got a shitty ranking, then you've made some shitty posts, as I have.

Bob, stop your bitching. The entire purpose of seeding is to keep the best writers apart until the final stages of the competition. It works in theory, but like in all competitions, there are wild cards, upsets and all manner of controversies that will probably make this entire discussion look irrelevant in hindsight.
Frankly, I'm artistically appalled that some people are hiding behind their seedings. If you really think you are good enough to be seeded higher then why not prove it with your writing.
If anything I would prefer to be in a lower seeding pool because I can point out at least ten writers in the lower pools who should be in my place. But this is the way it is and not only would it be utterly pointless to tamper with the remarkably meticulous process employed by Razor et al, it is also mindnumbingly disrespectful to those people who gave up hours (or in some cases, days) of their lives to ensure that Ubermadness II would run as hitch free as possible.
So with that said, let's stop this feudin' and afussin' and get down to some writing.
