Yeah, over the years, many different theories of time travel have been thought of. Here're a couple of examples. Stephen King's 'The Langoleirs'. A plane went through some sort of wormhole, and all of the passangers that weren't asleep disappeared. When the sleeping ones woke up, they found themselves to be in a stopped time. Now, there weren't any people in said time, there was just nothing at all, thus they couldn't actually change what happened in the past. And, of course, the Langoleirs came and ate up the past, so to speak.
Another example would be The Butterfly Effect, which is represented many times over, not just in the movie with said title. It was in an episode of The Simpsons, and also in Time Machine. Pretty much what it is, if you change one little thing in the past, everything in the future changes. It could be a small or a HUGE change, but when you go back, IF you go back, everything will be different.

So, what the hell is this guy getting at, you say? Eh, I'm just wondering what you all think about time travel. How do you think it works... and if you could go back in time, would you change it, knowing that everything that once was will be different? That you might not even be born??

That and I'm friggen' bored. ;)

Actually, to date i can only think of one method of going back in time. Unfortunately it's based off of the idea that something is infinitely long... so it's not possible.

Yet another version is in Futurama... when you go back in time, you can't change things; only make them happen as they were made to. I'm talking about the episode when Fry becomes his own grandfather... not to mention when he goes back and tries to stop himself from going in the chamber.

next time, if youre going to talk about time travel...please do no utter words as Butterfly Effect...where are the classics man?!

Dude, the 'Butterfly Effect' is just a theory. I haven't actually seen the movie, but the theory is a pretty big one. Maybe if you thought before you posted, you'd notice that the THEORY is IN most of the classics. and yes, I know all of the classics.

Yeah yeah yeah, I left out a bunch of them... haha. One though, that wasn't mentioned was Quantum Leap! That show's awesome!

And yeah, going back in time to change a specific event would pretty much be suicide. Sure, you the person would probably still be there, but your mind would be totally different. You wouldn't be the same person, or have the same thoughts... You'd just be dead. Although, if it were like Time Cop, you can go back and change things without having to worry about it, but that's slightly different. Now, as for Bill and Tedd... that would just be... woah!

Seriously, how could you not mention Back to the Future? I mean, duh?

Also Donnie Darko, 12 Monkeys, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Army of Darkness, Timecop, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek VIII: First Contact, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.....all deal with time travel.

Anyway, in my opinion, it's not possible. Time is not something God was actually thinking about when the universe was created. It's just one of our ways of making comparisons (how many revolutions will the clock make before x reaches y). The entire universe exists in this one "the instant". There are no others.

Did that make sense??

The way I see it, time can pass in two different ways. Either everything exists only in this instant and changes as time passes, or each moment in time is preserved forever and we leave a trail behind us.

In the first instance, the only way to effect time travel is to rewind the whole world, but you'd be rewound too so would not be able to bring your future knowledge back. Thus you would need to step out of the time stream, and allow yourself to continue moving forward in time while the whole world moves backwards. Some kind of time machine that keeps your time stream intact.

If time leaves a trail, then if we can find a way to turn ourselves 180º temporally so that we can move backwards then we could travel back to a different point in time and reinsert ourselves.

As for actually changing time, that's a paradox because if you went back to change something, then it would catch up to you and you would never have needed to do it so you would never have done it... in other words, if you go back to kill some terrible figure like Hitler, then in your own timeline he would never have done things terrible enough to have been killed so you wouldn't have needed to do it. So you'd have a continual loop of something happening that has no origin.

Ok, enough from me, can you tell I've thought about this alot? :D

btw, you left out one big time travel movie, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure!!

You should go back in time and not post this.
