Dog Shoots Man, Puppies Saved

PENSACOLA, Fla. (Sept. 9) - A man who tried to shoot seven puppies was shot himself when one of the dogs put its paw on the revolver's trigger.

Jerry Allen Bradford, 37, was charged with felony animal cruelty, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday. He was being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to his wrist.

Bradford said he decided to shoot the 3-month-old shepherd-mix dogs in the head because he couldn't find them a home, according to the sheriff's office.

On Monday, Bradford was holding two puppies - one in his arms and another in his left hand - when the dog in his hand wiggled and put its paw on the trigger of the .38-caliber revolver. The gun then discharged, the sheriff's report said.

Deputies found three of the puppies in a shallow grave outside Bradford's home, said sheriff's Sgt. Ted Roy.

The other four appeared to be in good health and were taken by Escambia County Animal Control, which planned to make them available for adoption.

This story is wonderful, and made me think of everything that is going well in the world.

The Red Sox have won 20 of their last 22.

Iraq is governing itself and moving closer to a democracy.

In Afghanistan women can do more than at any time in their history and the country seems more stable than I thought it would.

The summer is ending here, but it is coming closer to summer in Argentina which may be where I spend my winter.

I have the ability to argue with people I love and respect and most of the time one or both of us end up learning something. I also can participate in the political process because I am over 18 and not a felon.

It is not too hot and not yet cold, and the sun is shining outside. If the weather is not like that for you, be glad you are working right now and not wasting a gorgeous day.

There are constantly artists making great music (check out Snow Patrol and Keane and Mindy Smith if you are in America, they are great and not all popular yet), great movies (Garden State and Napoleon Dynamite a movie that I will be quoting an obnoxious amount), great video games (or so I hear I had to quit playing them), great writing (rereading C.S. Lewis right now, what a genius) and great television (Real World Philadelphia may be disappointing but Laguna Beach looks timewastingtastic).

Not everything can be perfect, which is why the man was able to shoot several dogs, the Cubs are struggling right now to meet Boston in the World Series, my tennis serve only came back after I lost to my best friends 16 year old little sister this weekend and we still have soldiers getting hurt overseas. But overall the world is awesome! Enjoy a great day wherever you are, because I am guessing you are free, you are in pretty good health and you would never shoot a puppy.

I wish after the dog shot this fucker, he - the puppy- , and his puppy brothers, all took a dump on him, too.

"Instant Karma"

(John Lennon)

Instant Karma's gonna get you
Gonna knock you right on the head
You better get yourself together
Pretty soon you're gonna be dead
What in the world you thinking of
Laughing in the face of love
What on earth you tryin' to do
It's up to you, yeah you

Instant Karma's gonna get you
Gonna look you right in the face
Better get yourself together darlin'
Join the human race
How in the world you gonna see
Laughin' at fools like me
Who in the hell d'you think you are
A super star
Well, right you are

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Ev'ryone come on

Instant Karma's gonna get you
Gonna knock you off your feet
Better recognize your brothers
Ev'ryone you meet
Why in the world are we here
Surely not to live in pain and fear
Why on earth are you there
When you're ev'rywhere
Come and get your share

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
Come on and on and on on on
Yeah yeah, alright, uh huh, ah

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
On and on and on on and on

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun

I think Ender's Game is first or maybe it's Speaker For the Dead.

Fight every fight for all time.

Oh yea, the new Dune books are not as good as the ones that Frank Herbert wrote, his son and some other guy who's name escapes me are writing them now, but I can't help it. I'm sucked in.

Right now I'm reading "Sometimes a Great Notion" by Ken Kessey of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" fame. It's a good book, but it's taken me a long time to get into it. I'm in too deep to bail out now, but at first I found it really hard to follow because the narration keeps skipping from person to person and he's not really following the usual Judeo-Christian time sequencing. Plus there are no pictures and I'm not all that smart when it comes to literature. Perhaps this is why I ordered James and the Giant Peach.

The book I read before this one was East of Eden by Steinbeck. Loved it, highly recommend. It's one of those books that you read and then find yourself thinking about later. I may have to dig up The Grapes of Wrath to read again I loved it that much.

Oh and I just finished reading all of the Wrinkle in Time books, bit juvenile but nice for the beach.

The other book I'm reading is called "Hyperion Enterprise Advanced Reporting", but I refuse to even crack that open unless I'm on the clock.

There are a lot of pleasures for us. As for a book on God, I like Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice, not very calculated, but entertaining.

K here is a list

Sci fi read Enders War and Enders Game in order though I am not sure which is first.

Milan Kundera, "The Joke"

Peter Hoeg, "Borderliners" "Smilla's Sense of Snow"

Stephen Lawhead, basically all of his stuff is pretty good.

Patrick O'Brien writes period pieces about a british naval officer, late 18th and early 19th centuries that are vivid and wonderful.

Non Fiction

Mardsen "Jonathan Edwards"
Oren "Six Days of War"
Olasky, "The Tragedy of American Compassion"

I have lots more, those are good reads though for a rig.

Lewis had a space trilogy?!?! I am not sure if I would enjoy anything of his more serious than narnia if you read it to counteract Atlas shrugged, that gets me fired up to become rich(not the real point of the book but it does).

Loki-new dune books? I am ashamed to say I read all the house: atraides, harconnen, corrino nonesense, and the bulterian jihad and crusade, but I thought they were all weak. are they still making them?

If I get stuck offshore with one more fucking john grisham book, i am going to paper cut my own head off with it. Not reallywhat this post is about but please list any kickass books you have read lately.

Ah one of those times when I read an RJ response and think that I've made the correct decision not to respond to any RJ comments. The dog didn't plan it, indeed. Perhaps someone should go look up the word "anthropomorphizing" and get back to us.

I'm happy today because the sun is shinning AND I know that because my new cube has a window, I finally had time to put up my pictures so my cube no longer looks like a prison cell, the books I ordered from QBP came in yesterday including "The Seuss, The Whole Seuss, and Nothing but the Seuss", "James and the Giant Peach" - yes I know it's a kids book piss off I want it, plus a new Dune book is out.

It's nice to see such a positive post.

I'm currently reading "Screwtape Letters." It totally changes your perspective on life and why things happen. I read each of the Narnia books at least twice. They're on par with LOTR by Tolkein in my opinion.

Do you want a rec for theological recharging? Read Wayne Grudem's "Systematic Theology" it is fabulous. As for brilliant Lewis that is underrated, his space trilogy is so loaded with rich layers I considered using it for a masters thesis before I went to law school. For my favorite writing about God, read Jonathan Edwards and John Donne. Donne's Holy Sonnets may be the greatest poetry, and some of the most beautiful sentiments expressed spiritually within the english language.

Afghanistan and Iraq are both better than expected and I am sick of people being down on those operations, I could never have guessed they would go so well. I fully expected some release of biological agents, and I thought the insurgency would be more popular. This is going better than Germany did post WW2 and it will not take as long for them to be self sufficient, until the oil dries up and then all of the arab middle east will become a BIG problem for everyone else in the world.

hahahah to random joe. Yes I was implying that the dog thought I wish I had a rifle so I could shoot him from a distance but I guess blasting him with his pistol from up close will be great.

Lewis' "The Screwtape Letters" is highly recommended... or even his "children's books" The Chronicles of Narnia...particularly "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe."

C.S. Lewis wrote something other than the chronicles of Narnia?

Saw that article and thought about posting it. Too bad the first three pups didn't shoot him first.

C.S. Lewis rocks, what are you reading now? I just read "Mere Christianity" and was actually a little disappointed. I picked it up because I felt like I needed a recharge faith-wise after reading "Atlas Shrugged." Didn't quite do it for me, so if you've got something better, I'd love to hear about it.
