Perhaps the only game/sport still with us from the time we were stalking mammoths all the way through to the first olympic games, right up to this saturday night. Boxing is a "sport" where the goal is to inflict enough punishment upon another man as to make him lose consciousness. Of course you can win rounds and win by points, but the scoring systems and (especially?) judges are terrible so the best way to win will always be a KO. Right or wrong boxing says scores about the true nature of man.
All those other kickboxing, UFC, K-1 and whatever other cartoon versions of combat leagues out there are for sissies.
Does anyone out there have a pick for the De La Hoya v Hopkins fight this coming saturday? I pick Hopkins to win by TKO somewhere past the 10th round.

wrong, wrestling is

i SERIOUSLY hope you are kidding. you obviously dont know much about mixed martial arts competition. the UFC, PRIDE fighting championship, king of the cage, are not organizations promoting "sissies" as you call them.
fact: 90% of no holds barred fighters wouldnt last past the 2nd round in a boxing match with boxing rules.
fact: 90% of boxers wouldnt last past the first round of a no holds barred match without some wrestling skill, and a little knowledge of submissions.
forget about ken shamrock, tank abbott, and royce gracie like someone mentioned earlier, those guys could beat a boxer on the ground....but the guys in the sport now, with fully evolved well rounded skills would crush a boxer who doesnt cross-train.
im longing for the day when a boxer the calibur of roy jones jr. or mike tyson steps into the UFC to bust some ass. with a good sprawl, and some submission knowledge, a boxer of this level would OWN mixed martial arts. too bad we dont have the millions it would take to get them in there.
oh yeah, butterbean (yes, i know he is a novice boxer) got submitted in under a minute in his k-1 fight against kenki sudo. the same would happen to any boxer who stepped into that ring that day with boxing gloves on.
to whoever said the following....
"vitor fought butterbean."
when did this happen?

I'm going to take Hopkins in the 8th. KO.
Chuck Lidell, Bas Ruten, Tito Ortiz, any of them could stomp all over any boxer out there.

Have you ever even watched a real muay thai fight? Those guys are hardcore. I haven't ever seen elbows encouraged in a boxing match, and I sure haven't ever seen a boxer able to take one. Thai fighters and no holds barred fighters are indeed hardcore, boxers are just participating in a fun to watch sport.

so your telling me that Tank Abbot, Hoyce Grace, and Ken Shamrock are sissies? Yeah in a boxing match against a professional boxer, they would probably get crushed, but in a street fight or real brawl, the guys of ufc would fuck up anyone in boxing.
and hopkins is going to kill de le hoya in about 8

I love boxing. However the participants in the other competitions you mentioned are far from sissies. There are some badass motherfuckers in those leagues.
de la hoya in 6-tko

You're saying UFC is for sissies???
Are you aware that Vitor of the UFC beat Butterbean in a matter of minutes?
I like boxing, but it's far from the toughest fighting league out there.
