The corkscrew exits the eye with a sickening plop, from stem to tip covered in the yellow disgust of the mans juices. He screams but I don't really hear him; I am concentrating on keeping my reticule targeted directly on the entry point of the second eye.
Slowly I bear down my white knuckled fist, pressing the point of the corkscrew against his iris, watching the colors flash in the slow flicker of the candle. The first half-inch inserts itself, the rest is up to me.
Two inches in he begins to mewl like a feral cat and I decide it's time for the peroxide. We'd hate for our friend to become infected.
The corkscrew stands firm from the base of his eyeball without the support of my hand; straight up in the air like the cock of a young man seeing his first ass pressing down upon him, and in retrospect I see that he was not much more than a young hard dick.
The peroxide slips from the bottle neck slowly and I have time to think about that old catsup commercial that says good things come to those who wait before he's mewling and thrashing again. But it's really no bother, for I'm straddled and saddled and holding the handle between white knuckles again before I know I'm done with the peroxide. Besides, I've always been a big fan of mayonnaise as opposed to catsup myself.
His second eye seems more pliable than the first, almost yearning for the length of the metal corkscrew to open it, flower it like a virgin loving the pain and the pleasure. All the way in, I twist, and he pops. So like the first time this is, so like the nervousness and excitement of learning something new.
Out comes the corkscrew, and this eye comes with it, full on the twists of the metal like a dead pig hung on a meat hook. I have time to marvel at the liquid running down the side of his nose, but not enough to fully understand what it signifies.
He'll learn respect.
He'll learn who God is.
If his hands were free they would fly like hungry seagulls to his face, trying to the cover the beauty and justice I've created in his empty sockets, but they are not. He only lies there thrashing, trying his hardest to use the sides of the old dentist chair to wipe away the mess he's made.
The eyeballs rest on the clean formica table top I've acquired just for this task, and lying there, they seem full of more life than when they were being seen through by his brain. They stare at me and speak to me, confer with me in conspiratorial whispers. They say:
"We know. We know full well. He knew, but pretended otherwise. We love you for what you have done. We love you and we love God."
I tell them thank you and whisper that God is no where near this room, not now. God has seen and even perhaps played apart in the art I've created in the man strapped to the dentist's chair with holes for eyes, but here he is not.
Sometimes God forgets.
Pray he does not remember.
