"People are such a mystery to me." Jack told his friend Randy. "Why is it that a person feels the need to let you know what is on their mind?" Jack applied some white face powder to Randy. "Sometimes I wonder Randy." Jack set the white powder down and looked his friend directly into the eyes. "Can your eyes see something mine cannot? Do they see anything at all?" Randy just stared vacantly into the air; his mouth open like a baby bird awaiting mother's regurgitated food. "You know what I like best about this job Randy?" Jack asked the body lying on the cold steel table in front of him. Blood leaked out from randy, in small streams and swirling down the drain. "I would have to say the customers."
"So you are an undertaker?" Jill looked at Jack bewildered as they walked along the riverside. "Undertaker, that's a pretty grim term for my line of work." Jack scoffed at the comment. "I like to think of myself like a photographer. I doll people all up for one last memory. Their loved ones get to see them how they want to be remembered, just like in a photo." Jill smiled softly at him then. "So tell me then Jack, how would you like to remember me?" The question had completely taken him off guard. Jack thought for a moment lost in her untouched beauty. "Remember you? I don't want you to ever leave."
Lying in that cold bed, his only companion the beeps, Jack wished that was how he would remember her. The reality of the situation however was another thing completely. For the past few years Jill had fallen quite ill. Bedridden she had become something of a permanent fixture in their quiet little suburban house. Jill was always silently saddened that she could never have any children. An accident shortly after they had met rendered her completely infertile. Jack did not mind. She was still the only person he had ever loved. Jack wished he could remember her as she was that night always and forever. But he knew that was not the case.
"Come on Jill, I have a surprise for you." Jack announced arriving home from work. She looked up at him and smiled. Talking had become a near impossible task for her. "We are going to go for a walk, on the riverside just like we used to baby." Jack scooped her up from the bed, and put her in her wheelchair. "Don't worry about the nameless one honey, he cannot touch us tonight." Jack reached into his pocket and felt the cold hard metal of the canceled gun. He did not dare let Jill know about it, as she was deathly afraid of guns. "I just want it to be like old times."
Wheeling her into their favorite restaurant, Jack found a private table on the patio where they had met and went up to the bar for a bottle of wine. "Please don't send anyone over to our table, my wife is very ill, and must be handled with kid gloves." Jack handed the host a wad of money. "Of course sir, and my please give the lady our best wishes." The snooty looking host showed a moment of uncharacteristic tenderness, perhaps the man did not have a heart of stone. Or more likely he appreciated the money.
They dined in the cold moonless night. Finishing up his meal Jack leaned over and kissed Jill on the cheek softly. "Lets get out of here darling, I would like to walk along the riverside with you again." Jack whispered into her ear.
As he wheeled Jill along the riverside they talked about everything and anything. The stars, work, plans for the house. Jack was completely lost in the conversation. He had not felt this alive in so long. So engrossed in his love for Jill he did not even hear the footsteps behind him. When they got to their destination, Jack laid a blanket out on a clearing on the ground. He helped Jill lay down on the blanket, and together they stared into the sky. The river was surprisingly calm that night, and a cool chill ran across their bodies. Jack caressed her tender legs, running his fingers up and down her milky white thighs. Jill looked deeply into his eyes eagerly awaiting him. Slowly, gently, and tenderly they made love along the riverside.
"Well isn't this a pretty picture." A dark man spoke aloud. "Decided to do your filthy fucking business in my park huh?" Jacks blood ran thick in his veins. The gentle cool winds turned to ice and scraped across his exposed back. Jack got up off of Jill slowly. "Look sir, I am sorry we don't want any trouble." Jack struggled for an explanation. "We were just going for a walk and one thing lead to another and." The dark man cut him off in mid sentence. "And I really don't care. You should not be out this late at night by the riverside, it is dangerous. You wouldn't want anything to happen to that pretty little girl would you?" jack quickly shot his attention over at her. Laying semi covered on the ground. "God I wish I had told her about the gun, it is right next to her in my coat." "Look sir, I have my wallet in my coat. I will get it for you." The man looked Jack over. "Please see that you do." Jack slowly made his way over to his coat. He was no longer covering his naked body. Jack now had bigger fears than exposing himself. He bent over and fumbled around in the dark looking for his gun.

Don't want to be mean, but this is a bit of a snooze.
