When I was lying next to your mother staring deeply into her eyes I had a feeling you were about to join us, there were now three of us sharing the warmth of the bed. I knew I loved you before I knew you were here for sure.
When you were born I wept openly with joy, I spent a thousand dollars on drinks for strangers, cigars for passers by. I was in a different city, but without seeing you, I knew I loved you.
When I threw you in the air as a child, your giggles filling me with paternal pride and awe of your utter joy, I knew I loved you. My strong hands sent you airborne, my fearless heart made sure you were safe. You trusted my implicitly, you knew I loved you. I could tell.

When you got sick, you asked me why. I didn't know. I kept asking God but I got no reply. I held you, I spent time with you. I did everything in my power to show you how much I love you.
I am standing before your grave, crippled with grief. I should have told you I love you. I just...
Couldn't say it.
