John, 32 years of age writes books solely for the blind, braille for the all_too_ignorant.
Sally, 35 years of age has been blind since birth. She has enjoyed several of John's books over the years.
Current Setting: A coffee shop
Sally is up on stage, reading from a piece written by none other than John, our seeing protagonist.
"and that was when he realised his dream." she concluded to raptorous applause, as she came to the end of 'Swinging Vines'.
Sally stood, and with the aid of her cane began to walk offstage just as the next performer came on. She felt them walk towards her, come close and whisper in her ear "that was exactly as I meant for the book to be read, in that very tone." Bravo, Sally."
Before she had a chance to respond he was gone, out on stage spotlight on the bestselling author.
They all knew who really stole the spotlight that night though.
They all knew.

Hmmm, I kind of like this, in so far that it suggests it took the reader (Sally) to make the writer's work complete.
His indelicacy aside, I agree with Random Joe's wording.

alright fuckwad, I personally don't typically refer to the singular as "them"...
Perhaps if you weren't a half-wit you would have written "She felt someone walk toward her..."

random joe: them was in reference to the next performer, and they were walking towards her to get onstage, to take her spot.
or did you really need that explained?

"She felt them walk towards her.."
Who are "they", and why are "they" walking toward her?
