Entry 1
"I want that one daddy! I want it!"Like most 18-year-old guys, little kids drive me nuts. I honestly beleived that from the ages of 1-3 children are absolutely useless. Before that age at least they're kind of funny. And after that age, you can start teaching them. I always told myself when I had a son; I would put him in every sport imaginable. Baseball in the summer, Football in the fall, Basketball in the winter and a little bit of everything in the spring. I was in every possible sport when I was younger and I've learned more from that than every teacher, parent and book I've ever read.
I was probably the only freshman in my high school that actually wanted to get married someday. I thought about it quite a bit. Seeing a beautiful woman across a crowded room. Looking into her eyes on our first date. Kissing her on our wedding day, and showing her how much I truly loved her on our wedding night. I wanted it.
Things don't always work out the way we want.
Tasha was the worst thing that ever happened to me. We met over the summer after freshman year and I fell for her. I gave her my heart, mind, body and soul. When I would think about my wedding, I would see her standing across from me. Everything about her seemed right.
After our sophomore homecoming dance, we expressed our love to each other in a physical way. It felt so perfect. I was lying there with her head on my chest, staring at the ceiling, thinking about how perfect my life was.
Things don't always work out the way we want.
2 weeks later Tasha calls me and tells me to go the doctor to have a blood test done. Naturally, I'm worried. I never thought anything about STD's; I naturally assumed that a condom would prevent that. I had always seen her as so pure; I never thought she had done anything with anyone before. I found out that day she had lied to me. She had been lying our entire relationship. I loved with all my heart and she had betrayed me. I broke down and cried right there in the waiting room of the doctors office. I cried again after I recieved the results of my blood test.
I found out 2 months later that as a result of our homecoming celebration, Tasha was pregnant. I cried. I couldn't believe that everything I had wanted, everything I had dreamed of, was gone because of one night. I cried.
9 months later she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Landon Lee. I stood in the hospital room holding him and I cried. I had a son. I had the son I had always dreamed of. This is what I wanted, right? This is what I dreamt about. The problem was, I was only 16.
Today, I'm 18. I have HIV, which I contracted from Tasha. Landon has it as well. I haven't seen Tasha in almost 2 years. She took her own life shortly after Landon was born. I don't know why to this day, and I suppose I never will. I was given full custody of my son. I work 3 jobs to try and support my son and me. I go to school on the computer to try and get my G.E.D. I do this for him. He is my reason. I want him to have a better life, a good life. The life that I lost before I had a chance to see it.
That is what I want.

Entry 2
"Fuck you!" I scream, and there are tears running down her face beforeshe even turns to run to the refuge of her bedroom.
I leave.
Who the fuck does she think she is anyway? Telling me I have a
'problem'. I'll tell you what my problem is: it's people thinking they
know what's best for me. People who think that their way of life is
somehow better than mine and insist on trying to show me. Like somehow a
regular job and a white picket fence makes their life better than mine.
Walking through the alley that leaves my home I notice it's a little
cool out and put my hands in my pockets to keep them warm. I'd go back
for something warmer but I don't want to run into her again. Besides,
I'm not going that far.
I'm a junkie.
All I want is to feel 'good' (no words can adequately describe the
feeling so 'good' will have to do). I don't hurt anybody, I keep to
myself and still I get hassled for simply being high.
I find my friend where he's usually to be found. He knows why I'm here
and is ready with my little bundle of joy by the time I cross the
street. We talk about everyday things for a few minutes while our
wordless transaction takes place. I say my farewell and head back to my
happy home.
Have you ever been in my shoes? No? Then who are you (or anyone else) to
say that the stereotypical fucking Brady Bunch family portrait is any
better than my way of life? I stay out of your life, why can't you
simply return the favor?
Who are the lawmakers of the land to impose their views onto me? I don't
tell them what to do, why can't I expect the same. Are they somehow
magically bestowed with these higher moral powers of judgment upon being
elected/appointed to whatever position they hold? Yet because of them I
can't enjoy drug of choice in peace. I'm an adult, it should be my
choice if I'm not hurting anybody else.
It's all quiet by the time I get back to my sanctuary. She's either
asleep or into her own little world of peace on whatever she had hidden
away. Either way works for me right now, so I settle in and begin to
prepare my own little taste.
Most people can't understand my choice. Most people want the 'ideal'
life they've been spoon-fed since they were children watching the
picturesque sitcom families. Most people never question why they want
it. Most people aren't happy, either, and have no idea why since they
have everything the recipe called for: house, car, spouse, children,
full-time comfortable job. But then again, most people go through life
never questioning things and just doing what they're supposed to.
Most people are too afraid to rock the boat, potentially at the cost of
their own happiness.
Let me try to explain why I do what I do:
Have you ever been so high that you couldn't think? Ever had such an
overwhelming feeling of 'good' that there is no room in your mind left
for simple thoughts such as self and surroundings? Hours of pure ecstasy
unbroken by the mundane things of everyday. An escape so perfect that
you never wanted to return.
I have.
And it's all I want.

This is the first -2 I've given on Uber. I would have voted for any forfeit over these stories. For once, I'm glad my vote doesn't count, though I'd give it to #1 just to keep #2 from winning.

If the point of this Ubermadness is to depress everyone so much that we reduce the total number of users via suicide, I think it's working.

Ugh, after all that, now I'M depressed.
Entry One: Sob. Good, but a bit too much "after school special" in there.
Entry Two: Cry. But I liked the characterization. It just sounded right.
Entry Two wins because it felt more realistic then Entry One.

I really didn't like number one. Sorry.
Number two reminded me of a song:
Well my mama wants to know
Where II'm spendin' all my dough
Baby all she does is nag, nag, nag.
But I won't lie
I'd inject into my eyes
if there's nowhere else to stick my scag
and i've ruined nearly all of my veins
stickin' that fuckin' shit into my arms
oooh...givin' up, givin' up, givin' a fuck
well all i want is brown
and i'm goin into town
gettin high straight when i get back
my friend he's got the good shit
all i want is some of it
gimme gimme gimme that smack
and i've ruined nearly all of my veins
stickin' that fuckin' shit into my arms
oooh...givin' up, givin' up, givin' a fuck

As my usual preference is, I like this post because it is timeless. You do not define background, age, or even the drug of choice (excluding the photo). This allows me to easily relate to the story and substitute my own experiences, imagination and interpretation as I read through it.
I also like how the narrator needlessly provides a justification for his "little taste". It's not over the top and it's believable. The needless explanation is consistent with addiction, not just illegal ones.
The story flows well and isn't spoiled by unnecessary details.
Good post.

I really really wanted entry 2 to be brilliant, but I don't think it was. If you're going to write about being a junkie, I think it needs to be more gritty and realistic - the whole 'white picket fence' refrain didn't work for me at all.
I realise it's exceedingly bad form to do this, but I'm in one of those "fuck it" moods. Try this: http://www.ubersite.com/m/38128 or this: http://www.ubersite.com/m/32932
I'm not saying they're better, because they're just different. I suppose I'm just trying to justify why I didn't like this.

I am going to try to be constructive...it's difficult.
1: decent outline for a story...not the greatest execution. It just seemed undeveloped.
2: The character in this story is one-dimensional. (Of course, he is a junkie.) But, I still wanted more from this. You focused too much on their feelings about why it's illegal to do drugs, and didn't show me much of who the person was at all.
I personally don't think either one of you deserve to move on. 'Effortless' isn't always a good thing.

Meh. The misspelling of "believed" in #1 was the last nail in the coffin for that author.

Entry One was forced and not very thought out or well written for that matter. I just preferred Entry Two, I can't really explain why.

Both were well written. It was a hard choice for me this time. I went with 1 because it was a different view on single parents.

Entry 2 - Well done also, could have been better. I'm not sure you've been there before.

Didn't really like either, but number one had 1 death-for-the-sake-of-shock, with 2 more implied.
Also, number 2 was fairly well-written.
I mean, it even says after she killed herself "I don't know why she did." Ya know what? I don't know either. All I can think is that there's some overwhelming feeling around here that death somehow makes a story more deep, or just inherently better.
Ya know what?
It fucking doesn't.
