I consider myself apolitical for the most part. I don't bitch about the mostly insane and inane policies of my (american) government because I have only felt compelled to vote in one presidential election.
That being said, I have watched each of the beheading videos that have been posted by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's gang of thugs and bitches and have been struck by the utter and complete ruthlessness with which they have executed their victims (if you want to see any of the videos, www.ogrish.com has all of them in one place). What has really amazed me however, is how, starting with Nick Berg, it has taken longer and longer to decapitate these poor, innocent men. Armstrong's beheading took 30 seconds, and it is obvious that the knife is not sharp enough, nor long enough. They didn't behead the poor man, they whittled his head off. I have a strong stomach, and watching Armstrong's video made me sick to my stomach.
What's my point? Don't really have one. But it amazes me to no end that my government continues to state that they will NOT negotiate with terrorists, but they NEGOTIATED with Libya about discontinuing their WMD program and NEGOTIATED the lifting of nearly 20 years of sanctions against Libya. Libya is still classified as a State Sponsor of Terrorism, but we are going to trade with them?! What the FUCK?!
And we wonder why the world hates us.
I'm off my soapbox now, and will post my usual shit posts from here on out. Not to say that this wasn't a shit post.
You know what I mean.

I agree with Domenad. We need to realize that this is a war which will never be truly won now that it has been joined (and I agree that it needed to be joined). The nature of RADICAL islam/terrorism is that the more of these jihadists you kill, the more will spring up to take their place. Likewise, if you begin negotiating with these "people", it will only encourage more kidnappings.

I like www.ogrish.com. "Can you handle life?" when you enter the website pretty much sum up what I think of it.

Actually, Libya gave up its programs under years of UN sanctions. Ghaddafi was just smart enough to know which way the wind was blowing (i.e. he saw Saddam's sorry ass go down and didn't want to join him).

I won't give a -2 though I disagree with what you said.
Once you negotiate with a terrorist, what do you think this does? Does it fix the problem or encourage others to negotiate with us in the same manner? This is what is up for debate, I guess.
Libya has an official head of state. It's a recognized government.
Is Libya one and the same with terrorists? Who knows... It appears at least on the outside that they are willing to change and give up their nuclear ambitions to do so. They realized working with the west is much more to their benefit than working against us.
Did we negotiate with them? who knows...if we did it was in secret. And it was one of those "Hey, get rid of your weapons programs and we'll hook you up." deals...
Do you think the terrorists will accept "Hey...Stop bombing, and we'll ... uh...hook you up with contracts from the western corporations to pump money into your economy."
It isn't the same thing at all....

Sort of amusing at the same time, so a +1 will probably make you smile.
