I am a graduate student a major university, and I have several female friends in the white middle-class 15-25 demographic. (I meant 18-25, really, i did FBI) The other day, I was riding in one of these girls' cars, (lets call her Jane) and she decides to start bumping the song "White Tee" by some group of faggots. (See http://www.ubersite.com/m/45774)

Like Don, when I first heard it, I laughed my face off, and asked Jane if she was serious.

"Am I serious, this song is banging, the other day me and 'Jess' went to the mall and bought a white tee each! I love this song."

Me: "I hate music like this, its clearly made for middle class white girls. It is everything that is wrong with hip hop music."

Jane: "Now way, this song is hot!"

(*note* I wrote 'now way' instead of 'no way' because if Jane were writing what she was typing, i could assure you
that she would misspell things such as this.)

So now my friends are pissed at me because I dissed their favorite song, I am pissed at them because they embody everything that is wrong today with my favorite genre of music.

The mindset of girls like these is this: "I am from suburbia. I like the MTV-Nelly-Chingy Ghetto appearance, and I want to get in on the ground floor of the next new stylish trend. So I am going to mindlessly love whatever comes on the radio. By doing this, I will be 'ghetto.' "

It is these same girls who call things 'ghetto.' "Oh my God Becky, this poster is so ghetto."

Maybe, if by "ghetto," you mean "I am a huge fat cunt."

I can only hope that in the near future, more people come to realize the worthlessness of the hip hop that's on the radio today, and turn back to the underground, where hip hop has some meaning.
People are going to start realzing this, and give some MCs such as Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and Common some much deserved respect.

"They say money's the root of all evil but I can't tell
Or is it the mindstate that's ill?
Creating crime rates to fill the new prisons they build
Over money and religion there's more blood to spill"
-blackstar

To quote Guru, the rapper in the group Gangstarr,

"What the fuck is this shit that you are listenin to now days on the radio man?
you call that shit hip hop?
That's some faggot bitch shit y'all are listenin to.
All you DJs are letting the program directors handcuff you, and sit there and tell you how to mix?
You fuckin Robots, Fuck ya'll."

People who like "White Tee" are nothing more than robots. Fuck Y'all.

sorry this is so jumbled, i was fired up about these stupid people. everyone who likes chingy should be shot.

P.S

If you like Pharoahe Monch (he is teh awesome) you should get yourself some Organised Konfusion. Stress / The Extinction Agenda was their best, I used to have it but it disappeared and is quite hard to get hold of. Also check out Prince Po(etry), Pharoahe's partner in Organised Konfusion.

MF Doom
Killah Priest
Guru
Buckshot
Afu-Ra
Skinny Man
and of course KOOL KEITH all rock.

B-Reel Cypress Hill - Strictly Hip Hop - 3 Temples Of Boom (I never really liked Cypress Hill but this is without doubt the greatest rap album of all time)

I ain't never rapped on an R&B record,
And I never will,
I got these phony motherfuckers talking about keep it real,
But they don't know how to take their own advisement,
Going out doin' soda water advertisement.
Comersialising,
Fucking sellout,
Nigga, this is Hip Hop not fashion,
Get the hell out.

I have a gangster brother, so I know that Agent Orange is from a guy called Cage.

However, rap sucks. Plus two for saying radio rap sucks
Minus two for not saying other rap sucks.

"I know Slug from Atmosphere on an acquaintance basis. I met him at a few shows and we've emailed before. His CD's are available at Best Buy and amazon.com and shit, but he has no problem with free internet downloads. I would try to find "God's Bathroom Floor," "Scapegoat," "The woman with the tattoed hands", "Guns and Cigarettes" on Kazaa or whatever media file transfer you use. If you like it, you should either check out a live show (he's resonable, 10-15 bucks a show) or buy one of his Albums. I would recommend "Lucy Ford," "Overcast!" and "God Loves Ugly." A lot of his shit is super laid back, kinda like that tribute song on "Blackstar" to black chicks, only Atmo is all white".

I think you'll find Slug is mixed race!!!

I feel like i've walked into a party that i'm not supposed to be in, and everyone's gonna stare at me if I hang around for too long. Interesting rant though.

If you like Talib, Pharoahe etc, check the Soundbombing mixed albums from the now defunct Rawkus Records. I have Soundbombing 1-3, think that's all of them.

No doubt that concious rappers like Common, Talib, Mos Def and Nas (can't believe you left his name off your list, that cat's a poet) have their place and are front and center in my collection but hip-hop is Nelly, Diddy, Luda, Budden etc. too, part of the culture is the party and it ain't a party without a party anthem. Will Smith = whitebread rapper, Summertime by Will Smith = one of the best summer cruisin' tracks I've heard (although Another Summer by 213 is tight), just proves that it's all hip-hop.

All the real heads will be noddin' in the next couple of months; Nas and Talib drop next week, Mos Def in October, Dre, Game, Shady before Christmas. But where is Rakim's new joint?

Pharoahe Monch is sick, I have "Internal Affairs" and it's a hot CD - he has the ability to string together some sick rhymes.

I know Slug from Atmosphere on an acquaintance basis. I would recommend "Lucy Ford," "Overcast!" and "God Loves Ugly." A lot of his shit is super laid back, kinda like that tribute song on "Blackstar" to black chicks, only Atmo is all white.

If you look into Brother Ali, download the song "Blah, Blah, Blah."

If you check out Sole, get "Year of the Sex Symbol" or "Bottle of Humans" WARNING!!!! Sole is a rapper but his shit doesn't rhyme. It's like spoken word but it flows.

I'm the third guy to mention Heiroglyphics (Souls of Mischeif is like an offshoot of that - you may have heard of AZ - he was in these groups) so it would benefit you to look for "You Never Know" by Heiro.

Um, Sage Francis is good, get "Soul Assassination" by Afu Ra, and I forgot who else I mentioned.

Email me at douggiovan.at.yahoo.com (I hit you up a few days ago) if you want more info or if you want, I can try to send you some songs.

121gw -
the 'undergroundest' hip hop i listen to regularly is pharoahe monch, if you can call him ug.
further than that, i never really know where to find out about the 'real underground' music thats out there...but i'm always down to try something new. keep the names and places to obtain their music coming...

Tim - you're the man.

Popular "radio" hip-hop peaked in 1995 and quickly fell on a downward slope. What happened to Tribe, the original Wu Tang, Reasonable Doubt by Jay-Z, when hip-hop could be both good and popular at the same time?

Are you into underground hip-hop? And I mean truly UG - Talib, Black Thought (Roots) and Mos Def are hot, but still very mainstream...

I'm talking about Atmosphere, Eyedea, Sole, 7L & Esoteric, Heiroglyphics, Souls of Mischief, Brother Ali, Sage Francis, Afu Ra, and a host of others? Those are some DOPE MCs that are beyond being hot on the mic. They rip up the stage and your speakers. If you don't know 'em, check 'em out.

A second vote for the Hieroglyphics. Del is -the- man - one of the most extensive vocabularies of any MC I've heard.

Also check out the band "Prefuse 73" and their album - "One Word Extinguisher", for those of you looking for hip-hop that's actually good.

Goddammti I hate that song, and to make it worse, they used that beat in like 5 different songs. I want to die.

The only thing worse is white people with corn rows or dredlocks.

White people with corn rows: Stop it. You look like an idiot. Can we not let black people have one thing to themselves? We stole hip-hop from them (although God knows why, musically, it's the equivalent of stealing a dirty diaper) and we made it completely irrelevant. Early hip-hop (and by early I don't mean 1998) was just as obnoxious, but at least it was honest, and not manufactured shit made by studio gangsters. Let them have their hairstyle.

The same goes for white people with dredlocks. You're not Rastafarian, you're just a stoner who still lives in your parents basement.
