I'm pretty sure people living around the Vancouver, British Columbia region or the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario would have noticed Chinese stores popping up worse than dandelions in spring. So whaddya think? Are they just taking over or do you mind at all (or do you care at all)?

Wow .. I'm surprised I haven't heard back from ISuck. I figured he'd go and return a biting remark or put a bunch of words that should be censored.

Even with the whole 'inferior quality' of things, I find it surprising that so many goods are labeled 'Made in China'. Even if you have a really high-dollar merchandise that was definitely made in Japan, there's bound to be some part of it that was made in China. I know that for the really poor families in China, they earn an average of around $14 per YEAR, which amounts to less than $3 Canadian Dollars. It's also funny that even though we're all cursing about the crappy quality of Chinese products, we live with it. I mean, would you go out and buy something minus all packaging just to avoid the 'substandard' quality? Some companies get around the Made in China label by saying that it was 'Assembled in _________', but it still doesn't tell the customer where the parts were made to start with. Usually I don't see Chinese shops as people dishing out money just to take over better parts of the city. Think of it more like getting a firsthand sneak peek at what might become the next trend. I must agree that most of the things I own which are labelled 'Made in China' typically don't last me more than two weeks, it's still relatively worth it. For example, go to your local smoke shop and check the price on one of those windproof lighters. Check again at any half-decent Chinese shop. If I want a lighter that does its job in the wind (which I'll probably lose within a month), I'd rather spend about five times less money for it.
With the road signs ... I can tell you it's annoying as hell. I've spoken Chinese at home all my life and I still can't read the goddamn signs. Then again, I can drive around Toronto and see road signs in a dozen other languages as well. I think it's either to give people the idea (and the feeling) that they are entering a Chinatown of sorts or it's just out of respect for that culture.

I understand where you are coming from. I'm in Australia, and on the Gold Coast ( a very popular tourist destination) Asians have taken over. Even the street signs are written in asian as well as english! This is very frustrating as their shops are everywhere selling inferior quality goods. Not only this, but by them having shops everywhere it prevents Australians from setting up shop. The only reason they get away with these sorts of 'take overs' is because they have the money to do it. Any Govt will let them overrun a town if they show the dollars. It sucks, I agree, and I am not racist, just patriotic. Why don't they set up their dingy little shopfronts in their own countries, because at the end of the day, they send all their profits back to Asia anyway, so it doesnt help local economy at all.

Actually, I *am* Chinese. I just don't want people to think that because I'm Chinese, I *have* to be biased. From what I've seen, life a couple years ago was much cleaner and carefree than what it is now.

If you're not a racist, why did you describe Chinese stores popping up "worse" than dandilions in Spring?
