Everyone knows that Playstation is now the popular than ever. It is the premiere, next generation gaming system avaliable in the US and most countrys worldwide. Why is this? It could be due to the remarkable advance in technoloy. compared to that of Nintendo's Gamecube (GC) has much more of a range in its games. And now, as the Playstation 2 is introduced (PS2)it also supports DVD's and CD's. It is also the first gaming system to have graphics capability better that that of the personal computer at the time of realese. But there is the matter of Nintendo bring out their new console 'The Gamecube'. the technology used in this console is also remarkable. the disc used in the console can hold up to 190 times more than that of it's brother the N64. It'g graphics are also advanced as better than before. Some of the other technological advances are that the New nintendo gameboy can be attach to the GC and play the disc rather than than the games that is specificly made for the GB. It is simply attach to port in which a crontroller is put in. But the gamecube is seen as the underdog of gaming systems. Unlike the Sony playstation and microsofts XBOX it has recived little media.
Some of the other fetures in the Nintendo gamecude are as such:
- In terms of speed, the gamecube can process information and loading times at the maximum of 2.8 Gigabites per second, if not less
- Has created a wireless controller called 'The wavebird '.
- Has four controller ports
- high speed parallel ports
- Two high speed serial ports
- Analog and digital audio/video outputs
So as i see it, there is not much difference in the advance technoloy in these systems and when thinking of buying one it is simply your choice to which one you prefer.

Dreamcast was a good machine but Sega gave up early on it, not willing to risk anymore money on the project. Who knows, they maybe had flashbacks to the Saturn days.

Cigar, I think Sony's marketshare lowering is almost a given at this point.
They have such a large share now with the current PS2 VS. XBOX VS. GAMECUBE situation, when they are the LAST ones to make the next generation machine, there is little doubt that will take away a bit. To assume that the huge percentage of the ps2 owners will simply buy a ps3 I think is too much.
Kind of use history as a guideline. The NES & SMS were out, NES dominated the market. Then, the Genesis came out and the SNES didn't come out for quite some time later. It had a pretty big effect on Nintendo. They haven't enjoyed that market share since!!! I don't think Sony can realistically maintain that kind of a share anyways.... If they do, someone deserves every dime of the multi-million dollar package they get for running the corporation.

Sony losing it's marketshare isn't a definite. If they don't really set the bar high, they MIGHT. But you have to keep in mind the fanboys, alot of them will be sold simply because "PS" nothing to do with the technology.
Xbox is simply amazing, I love mine. Gamecube is decent, but doesn't have enough games (I still own the fucking thing, I just very rarely play it) With Fables for Xbox, I rarely turn off the Xbox.

You could not have said it better. One simple line....
My take is this:
If you are a true gamer, you'll have multiple systems.
If you are a fanboy (or girl) you'll have one and be ignorant of the others.
What would be more interesting is to discuss the future.... Xbox 2, PS3, Gamecube 2 (I know the Xbox/gamecube probably won't be named as such).
Sony will lose its market share without question. And if its system is not up to snuff, it will be bad news for Sony. Remember sega genesis vs. super nintendo? How did Sega respond to the genesis? The miserable Saturn. PS One game out and took control and never looked back. The dreamcast was a great machine, but by that time Sony had dominated the market. MS looks to do the same now... It's going to be interesting!!!

I'm not a Playstation fan. Game Cube is better, but its not great either. XBOX is clearly the best of the newer systems. Here's the debate:
Playstation: yadda yadda yadda
Game Cube: yadda yadda yadda
XBOX: HALO, bitches!
Everyone: XBOX has a point.
Regardless, regular old NES is still my favourite system. Then SNES. Then Sega. Then maybe we'll talk about this new-fangled shit.

The technology is not the deciding factor. Note how PS2 has pretty much stayed ahead of XBOX for most of the common product cycle of the two. The reason? GAMES. And Gamecube has been lacking in the best games of all. NIntendo is still too oriented towards children instead of adults, while PS2 covers the bases far better. Couple that with the fact that any game that comes out for XBOX is all but guaranteed to come out on PC due to the common API, and PS2 remains the system of choice by a narrow edge, at least in my opinion.

Well, it's not so funny to even compare the great hardware overall power with the supreme quality of games at an extremely cheap price of the Gamecube with the poor limitations of the PS2.
PS2: FOURTY times less effective texture memory. Half resolution. No antialiasing nor supersampling. No hardware environment mapping and alpha blending (a good ol' 3Dfx Voodoo ONE could do this!). Less sound channels. No 3D sound. No 3 or four players. No great peripherals. No really innovative games. Less quality. But hey, there's one thing the PS2 has MUCH more than the Gamecube: price! (in both software and hardware!).
