NECROSIAC 20

"Father loved you very much"

Hadrian Pasteur nodded sadly as he lit the final candle in preparation for Lillith's journey.

"He was my friend before he became my Lord"

Lillith smoothed the pleats of her dress then settled into the plush red leather chair on the other side of the round oak table. With a warm smile she leaned forward to place her hand on his.

"He left many memories of your time together within my mind. If anyone were to take his place he would wish it to be you. He trusted you like a brother"

A ripple of pleasure shot up Hadrian's arm from her icy touch and for a second he lost himself in it and almost missed the intention of her words. After a moment the realization of what she offered made itself clear and he withdrew his hand to nervously grip the edge of the table then returned her gaze, his full black brow knit with caution and dismay.

"I could never take his place. No one could. If you wish me to mentor you in his teachings I will gladly do so, but only insomuch as a humble servant"

"Father would have wished it. You will be much more than a mentor Uncle Hadrian"

Hadrian found himself caught off guard for the first time in as long as he could remember. He hadn't counted on this. To become the father figure to a blossoming Goddess was preposterous even for a Necromancer as powerful as he was. Nervously he bowed his head to the polished table top and tried to find the words to dissuade her.

"Compared to you... to what you will become, I am nothing. For me to aspire to anything above that of a loyal follower would be sacrilege. Luis... Father would have wanted me to protect you. I cannot do that effectively and provide you with what you ask at the same time. You have lost a father already and the possibility that I will have to sacrifice myself for your safety is very real... also there are certain complications"

Lillith settled into the chair and pursed her thin straight lips into a frown.

"Adrian"

Hadrian returned his worried face to hers, she never referred to her brother by his first name when he was around and the fact she was doing it now set off warning bells. Cautiously he nodded "He doesn't feel as warmly towards me as you do"

"He was not gifted by Father as I was. He holds no memories of your time together. He is only aware of Father's intentions through me and I do not choose to reveal everything to him"

"No? I don't understand"

"I love Adrian very much but I worry for him as well. He is changing badly. He is not becoming what father wanted. He loses himself to his urges easily and I fear he may destroy us all if he strays from the path. I cannot reveal everything to him because I am afraid of what he will become. Also, he destroyed something of mine... something very dear to me. I do not choose to forgive him yet"

Hadrian leaned towards Lillith and locked eyes with her to make his point.

"All the more reason for me to remember my station Lady. If Adrian were to destroy me I could not fulfill my duties to guide and protect"

Lillith mirrored his stance, pleased by his self conscious flinch that her resolve was plainly evident.

"For now Adrian must not know. I will take care of him as I always have and in time I will learn to control his whims. Father knew if he were to be taken from us that I would be the one to see his vision fulfilled. I will not let anything deny it. Not even Adrian"

"You ask me to choose between you!"

Lillith frowned at the response and his obvious alarm. The awe the Pentate felt for the two of them had been apparent the moment they'd arrived at his doorstep. He had not known of their existence but nevertheless recognized them as Father's spawn and had immediately collapsed at their feet in subservience. During their short time with him she had become familiar with the unwavering loyalty within him that Father had commanded, but now looking at the fear on his face she wondered if she'd made a mistake in thinking she could sway him to her cause.

She needed him to fulfill her destiny. Of that she had no doubt. Father's protection from the wickedness of the modern world had not come without a price. She and Adrian had been brought up isolated in the old traditions, free of the taint of technology and materialistic culture embraced by the living. Father had wanted the most sacred beliefs of their kind to be imbedded within their souls before he gave them the knowledge to use the enemy's pretentious ways against them. He had never intended their upbringing to come to such an inglorious halt, such an abrupt end. She knew the truth of it. It burned in her core like a small sun.

The blinding flashes of stolen memory that had almost torn her apart when they had finally found release from the darkest recesses of her mind had brought up other memories as well. Images somehow imbedded deep in her psyche by Father. He had foreseen the possibility of his demise and used the old arts to place a good portion of his knowledge within her. She had no idea how he'd done it and could only guess that it might have something to do with the Necrosiatic sharing of their brains or perhaps some far advanced talent stolen from the Seer he'd taken earlier. Regardless, bits and pieces of his knowledge had been dragged up with the deluge of the late Directors memories like flotsam caught in a flash flood, until one by one they found their way to each other and became a whole, sealed together by her dead father's intent while the whispered last words she'd never really heard echoed ghostlike in her ears.

"Time to grow up my daughter. The tree is spent... its fruit ripe. Take root and become the orchard"

The Orchard.

She could see it with her father's eyes. It was his last great gift, the end result of the future he had wished for her. During their time with him he'd spoke to her and Adrian often of their destiny but never with detail. She'd grown up wallowing in the mystery of it until that day with her cruel brother when, in a cacophony of brilliant implanted insight, it had revealed itself in all its horrifying glory. The knowledge had come in the old tradition as her father had planned, one part of the sacred unholy Necromantic trinity followed closely by the second.

The Path.

The way to the Orchard had come to her shortly afterwards as if the revelation taking place within her was a movie playing backwards. It had made itself known from conclusion to beginning. The beginning she suddenly found facing her with apprehension and fear. Father had always intended Hadrian to pick up with them where he had left off should the necessity arise. But now she found herself questioning the knowledge he'd left within her as her pathfinder balked at the challenge provided by the third part of the Trinity.

The Traveller.

The explosion of the gift within her had finally faded, leaving behind the truth that she had always been meant to walk the path. It was the purpose for which she'd been conceived, the endgame of her being. It was for her alone to endure the full extent of the blood splattered destiny of the Necrosiac. Adrian was meant to accompany her on the journey of course, but he was never meant to reach the end. Father had recognized the faults within his son long before Lillith and had implanted his wishes concerning the journey to come, along with everything else.

In the end, when reality had come rushing back and she found herself once again awash in the anger towards Adrian that had brought her to near collapse, she had become wistfully at peace with her eventual revenge for the wrongs he'd committed. She'd looked up lovingly at the doomed fool above her and told him the only thing she could.
"Brother, I found it. I found the path"

Hadrian looked at the elegant portrait clad walls of the study as if seeking an escape from the impossible position he found himself in, then reluctantly returned his attention to Lillith as she spoke to him in a voice strangely reminiscent of Luis.

"Would you please recite the Necromancer Trinity to me Uncle?"

Thankful for an easy task he answered unquestioningly.

"Life, Death, Undeath"

"Meaning?"

"Slavery, Freedom, Subservience"

Lillith nodded and smiled. "Let me tell you of another Trinity. The Trinity of the Necrosiac"

Despite her uncomfortable misgivings regarding the judgment of trust Father had placed on the Pentate, she made the decision to share her gift and told him of her last day in the sanctuary and the revelation that had led them to him. She left out nothing save the future of Adrian. As much as she was sure she would come to love the nobleman, she did not feel it appropriate to further concern him in matters directly related to the blood bond she shared with her brother. Instead she distanced Adrian from the story, taking care to emphasize her role in the future to come.

When she was done she sat back in the chair, closed her eyes and wrapped herself in the familiar shroud of her father's memory.

After a time Hadrian spoke, his voice soft with retrospection. "Traveler, Path, Orchard"

He stared at Lillith for awhile longer without seeing her then added his own interpretation "Prophet, Ascension, Goddess"

Lillith crooked her head to the other side with a familiar bone cracking snap and gave the approving nod of a pleased mentor to a talented pupil then added "Awareness, Revolution, Hell"

"Hell?"

"Yes" she said "I believe that is what the enemy would call it... what they would label it in ignorance... but it will be our Heaven, our dark eternity and it's where we will rule"

Hadrian stood and crossed the short distance to Lillith then knelt before her. Reverently he took her hand and pressed his dead lips to her thin cold fingers. "Lady I will do as you wish, whatever follows with you, be it Heaven or Hell."

"Hell" she answered.

The Pentate smiled. "Then I shall dream of Hell on Earth"

Lillith smiled back, removed her hand from his grip and caressed the man she now called Uncle's cheek. "Tonight... after my journey... I will show you how to hurt me. I will send Adrian on an errand and then we can play"

"Lady" he replied "I think it's I who will be the student"
Lillith smiled back, removed her hand from his grip and caressed the man she now called Uncle's cheek. "Tonight... after my journey... I will show you how to hurt me. I will send Adrian on an errand and then we can play"

"Lady" he replied "I think it's I who will be the student"

Once again she leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes.

"The portal is still open" She said "I should go. You know what to do should the necessity arise"

Hadrian reseated himself across from her and watched as she tapped her ripened Seer ability and drifted into a trance state. Patiently he waited and shifted the focus of his thoughts from sister to brother. He couldn't deny that Adrian was losing control. He'd suffered the loss of an acolyte and several pets to Adrian's whims over the last couple of days. The boy's need for violence seemed to be growing in conjunction with his powers and the Pentate wondered if Lillith would be able to control him as she promised but then, after a brief reflection of the conversation they'd just had, he wondered if Adrian stood a chance.

He wondered if any of them did.

I've been thinking about this story a lot lately... If you're not already, you should be whoring it out in search of an editor. There's no reason, with some development and fleshing out (hmmmm, there's an apropos choice of words), this couldn't be a really good novel a la Clive Barker.

What an incredible coincidence.

I spend my mornings fantasizing about you wearing a hat and conquering me.

With tweezers.

Ahahaha!!!!

I wasn't expecting anyone to see this.

I don't get nosehairs. I spend my mornings fantasizing about you. Then I put on a hat and spray myself with something (I can never figure out what) and skip off to conquer the day.

Necrosiac Part 21

Mattaius looked at himself in the mirror and wondered how he hadn't seen it coming.

The spell had been a powerful one, ravaging his nosehair to an extent he'd never experienced.

Frantically he grabbed a pair of tweezers then prepared for the pain he knew would follow.

"F u c k You Nosehair!!!!" he said.

Reluctantly he pinched one long strand between the glinting silver tips of the salvation in his hand, then glanced at the door to the bathroom in the hopes the Agency Response team would make it to him in time.

Nothing.

Mattaius Pitt closed his eyes against the torture to come then whispered a quick prayer and yanked.

LadyPlural,

The way I phrase things sometimes is on of my major drawbacks. If you see someplace I have fucked up please feel free to point it out.

Thanks a ton for the review!

Chilling. Nothing else can describe Brother and Sister. Horrific, in a compelling way, I suppose.

I look forward to the next one.

It's hard to believe this thing is up to episode 20.

I'm about half way done the next story, it's probably the most depraved thing I've ever written.

God I hope my kids never read this...

Anyways, off to torture kittens.
