"acute demyelinating event"...That's how it first started for me five months ago. I was floored. How?
I was 40...in the best shape of my life and roaring like a god.

"nobody knows for sure...it just seems to pop up for unforseen reasons" was Mr. "Brute by Fabrege's" explanation.

"Will is get"...he interrupts me..."No..it'll get worse as time goes bye"...silence...."OK" I mumble....

"Hows your memory to date?" he ask's with pen in mouth.

"Well the mere fact that almost everything I do now is directed by a little yellow post-it note, stuck in some obscure location, ...Fine!"

"I haven't started to pee on myself in public, Which is good I guess?"...I flip outloud.

One corner of his mouth curls in a clinical pirates smile.

"There are treatment options for this thing and we'll get you on one post hast".

Hours of clinical explanation of the treatment..."Blah, Blah, Blah"

"ok so thats an injection everyday for the rest of my life with that Captain Ahab harpoon in one of seven different sites on my person ...?"..."The kids might get some sort of sic humor out of this somehow?"...Daddy Dart board of sorts...

"What about my memory?"...I'm getting pretty bad about the simpliest of things?"

"We have some experimental drugs that MAY help with your memory loss...but basically once its gone...its gone"

I just watched this play out with Jim Carey and Kate Winslet in that Spotless Mind dvd...What was the full title....FUCK?"

Suddenly I'm saddened to think of all the great things I've seen, read and done in my life that will be erased forever..."These are the Salad days"

"Well think of the excitement you'll get from hearing that new "Houses of the Holy" album from Led Zeppelin" my buddy offers..."You just might be able to rekindle Erik Estrada's career as loveable Ponch thru reruns"...

God Damn he's such a balance.

"Man...I need to start to read more." ..."So little time and so much to read"...

"Where do you start, though?"... he adds looking at my library.

"I know exactly where"

Which brings me to where i'm at right now...Ubersite.

So my question is..."What book would you say has influenced your life the most?"

Most of Uberer's are more on the lines of literary mouth breathers....but some of you are balanced on the razors edge of pure genius...and its the ones on that edge i'm asking.

With the candle of memory flickering out...What book are you going to read with the little light thats left?

Sorry, missed the influential part, that was just a list of books I liked over the years. Tao of Pooh and Alchemist are possibly the only two that influenced me in any way, and I know friends who have borrowed both that said they changed the way they looked at life, people etc. I'd lend them to you but I have this feeling that I'd never see them again.

'The Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho
'Tao of Pooh' & 'Te of Piglet' by Benjamin Hoff
For psuedo-religious/spiritual stuff.

'Heroes Die' & 'Blades of Tyshalle' by Matthew Woodring Stover
'Perdido Street Station' by China Meiville
For sci-fi writing

'The Fionavar Tapestry (Summer Tree, Wandering Fire, Darkest Road) by Guy Gavriel Kay
'Legend', 'The First Chronicles of Druss' and 'Legend of Deathwalker' by David Gemmel
For historic fantasy (light read but violent deaths by the thousands)

'Catch 22' by Joseph Heller

How's that for a start, hope a couple catch your eye. I too live by post-it notes but my memory loss is chemical rather than physical. My wife calls them "stoner notes", she thinks she's funny.
