I registered to vote when I was 18 in the state of Maryland. I voted when I was younger, but unfortunately I voted for whoever my parents wanted me to vote for because politics and world issues was something I didn't bother to understand. I recently registered to vote in the state of Florida so I can vote in the upcomming election. The only problem is I have no idea who I am going to vote for.

Everyday, I turn on teh tv and listen to the news and the recent analysis of the latest polls or the latest debate. I wastched the debate between the President and Senator Kerry. I watched the debate between VP Cheney and Sen. Edwards. I've gone on-line and read as much as I possibly can and gone through who believes in what. All I can come up with is I am so confused. I don't totally agree with either candidate on certain issues and I want to educate myself to make the right choice.

Just recently, I had a job at an ad agency in south florida. As many of you know, with Hurricane Frances (hit the county directly above mine) and then Hurricane Jeanne (same story there) my agency lost some accounts and did not get other accounts due to the damage and loss of income from these hurricanes. Therefor my ass was laid off. Fun stuff right? I can't totally blame that on the economy because it was more due to natural disasters, but now more than ever, I feel the need to pick the right candidate in order to best suit me. Not only that, but I am starting to hear of more and more people being laid off in other parts of the country, so needless to say I am worried.

With all the research and tv and different mediums of getting information to educate yourself, the biggest trick is to try to be objective. I read msnbc's website today and I felt like it was bias leaning toward Kerry. So then I feel like I have to research somewhere else so I can find more objective information, only there seems to be none. I watch the debates to try to get a feel for exactly where the candidates stand on issues and trying to find out if their stances support my views. The only thing I have gotten from the debates so far is alot of tit-for-tat and "once again you are misleading the citizens of America..."

Frustration comes in when people, especially my age..I'm 23, start spouting off at the mouth why they're voting for this person and quoting the infamous ads I see on a daily (probably hourly) basis on tv. It scares me how people make decisions without finding out any real information or doing minimal research just to see if what they hear is true. Instead they vote for whoever their favorite musician endorses. Yeah, that makes me feel good!

The pressure is on. Undecided voters have only 3 weeks to choose their man and another 4 years to deal with the decision they made. The best decision by far has been to choose to vote and try to make a difference.

Vote Kerry. Only stupid people and racist vote Bush. And people will think your cooler if you vote Kerry(or smoke), and think your gay if you vote Bush(or have sex with your own gender).

Vote for a third party candidate. That way, you don't help either of the two guys that have a chance of winning, you do your civic duty to vote, and you help show that we need something more than elephants and jack-asses... er... donkeys?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I absolutely hate Nader. He is my political opposite and yet I'd rather see him instead of Kerry or Bush because there would be some shakeup or fallout to the better of America somewhere...

I want libertarians in charge of the federal government and green party in charge of the "progressive" states, republicans in charge of the "bible belt" states, and a mixture of independants and democrats for the rest of the country.

**If you're unsure about what Kerry's plans are, he outlines them very clearly at johnkerry.com.**

Better hurry though, they'll change in the next fifteen minutes.

**But then again, the UK has a free and responsible press.**

And yet, your opinion on American politics matters exactly dick.

+2 for at least trying to figure things out

Actually +2, if only all Americans thought about it like this, no way Republicans could ever win. You guys would gradually move to the left a bit, and be like NZ! Go NZ WHOO!

America moving to the left would be stupid and devestating for the future of the nation. I wouldn't doubt China, Europe, etc. would love to see it.

I'm going to slap you over the head with the book Wealth Of Nations, Nobb.

it's every americans responsibility to vote responsibly. if you dont have a clue then so be it. if its not worth you time to do some research into the person you help place into the semi-oval office then by all means do us all a favor, do not exersize your privillage to vote, instead im sure there are some reruns of friends on for you , or maybe you can call the all politicly wise P. diddy for some advice, like the rest of the liberal fools , and if this was hard to read , its about time you people did something hard for yourselves.

You can always rely on cigar for reasoned and helpful advice. Or a -2 spamming.

Consider Bush's record on civil liberties, the environment, unfair tax cuts, federal budget deficits, women's rights, homosexual rights, promoting international togetherness, deforestation, corporate scandals, the PATRIOT act, supply-side economics (trickle-down), the Valerie Plame affair, the assault on the english language, the shredding of barrier between church and state, anti-abortion policies worldwide, John Ashcroft, corrupt votes in both houses of Congress, the Guard service scandal, the 2000 election, at least 15000 dead Iraqi's, Afghanistan, North Korea, Richard Perle, Iran, Uzbekistan, snubbing the UN.

Honestly, I don't know how people can even THINK about voting for this man.

But then again, the UK has a free and responsible press.

Maybe it will be good enough for you.

I'm gonna vote for bush because,

he scratches his balls, and he says, 'Let's kill some fucking terrorists!.' "

Although Kerry's plans for getting Europe involved in Iraq are impossible, I am far more worried about Kerry's plans for North Korea. He want to try unilateral talks again. They didn't work for Clinton and won't work now. The difference is, is that now they are furhter along developing nukes than before.

You don't have to make research, just reading the news is more than enough. For instance, yesterday, the US (a freedom loving country) vetoed the 29th UN resolution against Israel incursions into Palestinian terrirories that killed hundreds.

But then when a few countries decide to veto against a military intervention far less justifiable than Israel's, your government and citizen proceed to cry and insult half the planet.

Now you wonder why some men are ready to slam themselves against your buildings??
You truly deserve and need a "regime change"...

Or a nuclear holocaust.

You've said what you agree with about Kerry, do you actually agree with anything about Bush? Also, what does it matter if Kerry doesn't sound like he has a plan for Iraq? It can't be worse than what Bush has done. The place is a disaster, a total fuck up. At least the oil is being secured though right?

Your best bet might be to just unplug and think. or perhaps to read news and political information from the previous three years of Bush's presidency, before the election year got into full swing.

I agree. There's very little unbiased media at the moment.

i agree with kerry on abortion and gun control.

i'm still undecided overall but probably leaning toward him at this point.

Hey we have a few things in common LadyFace

I also used to live in Maryland

I also live in Broward County (Dolphins suck!)

As far as a decision. I'm voting for Kerry.

Consider Bush on the environment. He has rolled back laws for the coal, mining, timber, oil, and power industries to where they were 20 years ago.

We went to war for WMD's, oh no to liberate the people, oh i mean I forget why did we go to war?

As far as objective, try the BBC or Canadian news outlets. They seem to be less biased.

See you around fellow Floridian!

Reasonable concerns. If it makes any difference, take into consideration the serious infringments on our constitution brought about over the past 3 years. (go read up on the patriot act and take into consideration Bush's attempts to add an amendment to the constitution banning gay marriage. Even if you are anti-gay marriage, isnt there something horribly wrong with adding a distinctly discriminatory clause to the US Constitution, supposedly the core of what this country is founded on???). Anyway, just a thought.

Your sense of civic responsibility is admirable. Most people will cast a vote without a second thought on how well they've thought through the issues. To be honest, that's kind of refreshing. With that said, I'd advise avoiding the television and mainstream media outlets altogether. Sit down and head to a repubatable political analysis source. I'm a pretty big fan of http://www.cato.org, but I realize that the site has some libertarian leanings. There are many liberal and conservative sources. Just try to get a well-rounded view of the issues (and the stances of the politicians') that matter to you. Good luck....you're already a couple steps ahead of most voters.

Think of it this way: do you like the way the country has headed and will continue to head with Bush in the lead? If you're unsure about what Kerry's plans are, he outlines them very clearly at johnkerry.com. You can figure a basic idea of what the next four years will be like based on the debates and the literature on the candidates own websites. It's about impossible to find objective coverage, as everyone has an agenda. There are facts, and they are out there. Weigh them and choose based on whose policies you agree with more.
