The modern Republican Party has been hijacked, and one of the culprits is the Religious Right. It is without question that this group wields an inordinate amount of power within the Republican Party. A true conservative would be appalled by the influence these people have on the party of Lincoln. Time and time again these people, motivated by the world view that allows them the hubris to believe that their lifestyle is the only appropriate way to live, try to legislate morality. The last time the government tried to control people's personal habits was with the eighteenth amendment. We all know what a success that was, hello organized crime.

I feel this would be the appropriate time for a disclaimer; I don't care for alcohol but I am a big fan of naked ladies. I like looking at them and the only thing I should have to worry about when I do it is getting drool on my keyboard. If John Ashcroft and the Bush administration's Justice Department have their way I would be classified as a criminal. In a speech in 2002, Ashcroft made it clear that he feels that the viewing of porn is a threat to the moral fabric. of America. He said pornography "invades our homes persistently though the mail, phone, VCR, cable TV and the Internet," and has "strewn its victims from coast to coast."

The current administration is a prime example of how the Republicans have betrayed their core ideals. They have presided over the single greatest expansion of the federal government with the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, a massive bureaucracy whose ostensible purpose is to coordinate the actions of the CIA and the FBI. Additionally, the Patriot Act(s) I&II, and the TIA act. A hallmark of American democracy has long been that our individual privacy is protected against government intervention and snooping as long as we are not guilty of wrongdoing. These new systems would obliterate these protections. The government would simply collect data on everyone. These acts fly in the face of hundreds of years of American jurisprudence.

Tax cuts for the richest 1 percent of Americans are costing about as much this year as the combined budgets for Veterans Affairs, Energy, Environmental Protection and Homeland Security. The Bush administration's "Planning Guidance for the FY 2006 Budget" projects cutbacks in all those areas plus education, housing, health care and nearly every domestic responsibility. Presidents Lincoln and Roosevelt would be appalled at President Bush's unprecedented wartime tax policies -- lining the pockets of millionaires while soldiers are in the line of fire. They understood the importance of shared sacrifice. President Bush does not. In July 1862, President Lincoln established the first graduated income tax and taxes on inheritances and corporate dividends to finance the union in the Civil War. President Bush used the USS Abraham Lincoln, draped with a "Mission Accomplished" banner, to prematurely declare major combat operations ended in Iraq. Irony anybody?
I am in favor of a muscular foreign policy. When I say muscular, I mean an alert, flexible, and well equipped military, an efficient intelligence gathering apparatus; plus a vigorous defense of our borders. Isolationism in today's day and age is foolhardy and naïve. Intervention is sometimes necessary and appropriate. But we should not act as if we were Lenny from 'Of Mice and Men.' Stumbling around, creating havoc completely unaware of our own strength. And then we wonder why people are uncomfortable around us. The short answer is that we thought they were pretty, tried to make friends with them and accidentally broke their neck.

Unless you believe in the government being involved in our lives, down to the smallest detail; I don't see how you could possibly support this administration and its reelection bid. So many bedrock values of the Republican Party have gone by the wayside in e past three and a half years they are Republicans in name only.

Meh, give me an objectivist party where the government does two things: Jack and Shit.

In all reality though, I'd like to see a clean slate government and a 10 party system rather than a 2 party system.

I was quite offended to read your response to my piece on self awareness only to find that you look down on everybody as juvenile, possibly as some way to displace your own inferiority complex.

I'm sure cigar is quite childish at times, though I hardly felt Jessica and myself deserved your sharp tongue. What;s with all the poltics anyway? Don't you ever get bored of writing about it? I damn well got bored of reading it.

Still you were mature enough to not minus2 me with your unneccesary opinion, so I will do you the same courtesy...

Below are pretty much all your comments from the last 3-4 posts you have made, each one is in some way accusing the commentator of immaturity... weird.

Jessica darling, I am a teacher. I derive satisfaction from both learning and especially teaching. When you grow up perhaps this will be easier to comprehend.

The modern day republican party is kind of "meh". IT pales in comparison to the mutated mess that the democratic party has become though. Most of the democratic ticket today is riding on history, harkening back to the days of yore when dems were the dominant party in American politics. The party is now a hodge-podge of special interests. I'm waiting anxiously for the resurgence of 3rd parties to bring both the republicans and the democrats back to their basics.

Hahaha Jud you are funny, you think you are conservitive (or did I misunderstand you again?). Hahaha, I am starting to like you (no, not in that way) Haha, where did you come up with the brilliant technique of turning someones own words against them, very clever, and original. I am off to learn how to read and to investigate my repressed tendencies.

NotNormal-This constant harping on sexuality makes me believe you have some serious repression going on, that ok just go with it. If you do maybe you wont be so angry.

Your repressed homosexuality aside, did you even read my post? I didn't exaactly espouse a liberal opinion. In fact it was fairly conservative. You really need to work on your reading comprehension.

I think it might because there are a lot of idiots in America, and they see Bush as a kind of aspiration figure. You know, as a, "Wow, Billy-Jo... even an idiot like us can become a President!" He's like their leader and that's why around half of the population is voting for him.

I can't imagine why else. Many of America's worst off live in the red states. Their lives won't become much better with four more years.
