I hate being wrong.

Unfortunately, in this world, there aren't all that many opportunities to be right. No matter what, there's someone who knows a little more about this, who has memorized that. I don't care who you are or what degree you have. At some point, you're going to have to face the fact that the world is not flat; leaches are a pretty grody way to stop bleeding; there are no weapons of mass destruction.

There's really no way to be correct about anything, let alone everything.

You can live in a bubble. You can keep progress out. You can censor every sort of information that makes its way to you. You can surround yourself with mindless droids who have only developed as far as you have, who can't contradict a single belief in your mind. But therein lies the problem. People. You can get your magnifying glass out and look people over with a discerning eye that would make a weird sort of hybrid of Sherlock Holmes and Joan Rivers proud. However, someone is going to slip in amongst the mindless droids. This someone will seem just like everyone else at first. He's smart. He won't make any mistakes.

Eventually, he stands out. He gains your trust. Then and only then will he challenge you. Barely at first, but soon he's got you so confused that you don't know where your beliefs end and where his begin. You blindly place your trust in him because you know he won't let you down. He can't. You wouldn't have allowed someone like that to infiltrate your bubble.

The moral of the story? If you hate being mistaken, then quit letting people prove you wrong.

"You're young, you'll get over it. Now get back to writing interesting stuff please."

OK, BigMike, that's it. I've had enough of you, you condescending douchebag. Who the hell are you to decide what is interesting? The other day you placed a comment on a Loki post which said,"please......stop.....writing....about......politics." Hey Mike, FUCK YOU. If the subject matter does not interest you, click away. If you weren't such a self absorbed, head up your own ass jerk, you'd realize that there is more to life than YOU. As a matter of fact, I am bored by YOUR writing. All your stuff is such self-indulgent, butter wouldn't melt in my mouth CRAP, it makes me puke. But I don't place insulting comments on it, I just move on. Like you should, dickhead.

Get over yourself. Oh sorry, that's right. You can't and never will. Go spank your kids you sadist. Then STFU.

That is Sally's arm being ripped off from the Nightmare Before Christmas

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm impressed that you figured that out, Method. I never would have come up with it.

Mike, I love your stuff, but sometimes you write things like the response you penned here and it makes me really aggravated. We know you're older than a fair number of people here, including myself of course, and you have the benefit of that experience, but it's really....unseemly to go off on that every time someone displays an emotion in this vein. Kristen is obviously feeling fragile and a sort of painfully awake, which everyone does at some point, no matter what their age is. Honestly, I feel like this post is a close cousin to some of the pieces you have written about your son and such...discovery and realization, lucidity. I thought this was well written and articulate, and very honest, instead of trying to pretend everything is perfect all the time. Why can't you just allow for that, instead of going all parental and frankly, pretty condescending? Not everyone has had your experiences, not everyone lives your life...or would even necessarily want to. Everyone makes their own discoveries and decisions, and you can't spend your time telling them "duh, EVERYONE knows that," because really, that's more immature than pretending to be jaded and all knowing, qualities that I know you would hate even more than what you perceive as naivite.

Sorry, but that review really rubbed me the wrong way.

Kristen, this is a nice little piece of writing, and thank you for being willing to be this open. Shoot me an email if you want to chat, hope all is well with the bebe, and with you.

I found this to be interesting. I have to keep reminding myself of how old I am comparatively.

"There's really no way to be correct about anything, let alone everything."

Yes there is. Well, not about everything exactly. Are we feeling just a tad bit insecure Kristin? It's normal you know. It's called humility and we all should practice it. It's gods way of keeping our feet firmly planted on the ground.

There is a way to be correct about most things. Everybody's different and we have to make the right decisions for ourselves and our loved ones. We do the best we can by taking in all the information (about a situation or situations) we can and then reacting to it (or proacting to it as the case may be). As we become older, we gain experience (wisdom) and we are better able to handle situations because we know what has or hasn't worked for us. This is providing that we have paid attention to a certain degree to what has happened to us in the past.

This is why personal relationships can be so damned frustrating.

You can never be right about everything, by the way. Nobody can. Nobody is. I don't care how smart you think somebody is, there is always something that they have no idea about.

"You can live in a bubble. You can keep progress out. You can censor every sort of information that makes its way to you."

No you can't. Not if you have children anyway. Impossible. Stop trying.

"You can surround yourself with mindless droids who have only developed as far as you have, who can't contradict a single belief in your mind. But therein lies the problem. People. If they are mindless then what does that say for you dear?

He will make mistakes you just won't see any of them. People who seem perfect to us quite often see themselves as completely less than perfect. That's why they try so hard. Some people have charisma. Some people have brains. Some people have athletic ability. Some people have none of these. All these people have insecurities that make them less than perfect.

It's what makes us human.

We all need to be challenged, it's what helps us grow and learn. Challenges teach us about ourselves.

You're young, you'll get over it. Now get back to writing interesting stuff please.

Letting someone like that into your "bubble" and turning your beliefs upside down is the best thing that can happen to you. Why? because it makes you question your own beliefs. Through this, you will either a) re-affirm your current beliefs, b) realize you're absofuckinlutely wrong, or c) realize that by taking a part of your belief and a part of this persons belief and meeting anywhere in the middle, you find an answer that makes a lot more sense to you.

so which is it Kristen? multiple choice.

oh, and btw, we seek this state of chaos, that is why we fall in love. because the timeframe of falling in love is chaotic, and being in love is leaving that chaotic stage. you hear couples complain about how they lost that fire that they had at the beginning? they lost the chaos. well, thats my theory.
