What better place to rant, and seek advice than Uber? Noplace, thats where!
So it is to you I've come to ask:
What should I do?
Heres the story..
My father is in highschool. He gets wasted for the first time at a party, and thus starts a neverending spiral of alcoholism and suffering.
He starts a family. He fails badly after the 10th year, though revives it occaisionally. He lies, beats and abuses his children. I, being the middle child, was often referred to as "The jewish nigger". Lovely place, you get the picture of my homelife.
My brother(who is older) takes place of my father when my parents split, inthat of abuse, and beatings. It's here I begin the hard upward climb to a financial stressfree living. From this abuse arises severe depression. Not the superficial 'o i cut myself 4 attention' cutting. To make a long story short, I eventually admit myself to a hospital(my brother still tells his friends this, and mocks me for it). I'm diagnosed with severe depression, with suicidal tendancies. Blablablah.
It's October 2004. My father is an old man.
Correction;
He's a homeless old man. His drunkeness kept him from getting jobs, or from making any living. No shelters will accept him. He's a waste as far as society is concerned. When police found him, he was barely alive under a picnic pavilion(where he lived) with an extreme infection in his left leg. Karma maybe? He was taken to the hospital, and he could die, or lose his leg.
What the fuck do I do?
Do I leave him go, hope he dies soon, and *maybe* go to his funeral?
I had been thinking.. You take away the alcoholism, the beatings, the abuse, the drugs, and he's just a regular old guy. A guy in pain, without family, and with little hope. I'm the wealthiest person in my family, and I made myself that way. My father has never seen anything I've forged, or created in general. Do I go in and show him how I'm the opposite he is? Do I go in, leather apron, a dirty face, callous hands, and the whole uniform, and show him what I've become? Do I tell him how sick he's made me, but I only take pity in him now?
What in the hell should I do?
A note though.. I'm not looking for -1, or -2s. If you wanna leave somthing, leave a zero maybe.. I'm honestly looking for advice, not harrassment(I promise, this'll be one of a very select few posts I'll make that have a slight sense of seriousness).

If you dont forgive your father you will never be at peace for what he did to you and your family. Revenge and all that stuff isnt going to help. You blame him for your depression.. And rightly so. I too was raised in an alcoholic family. So I know how it can be. Dont be a victim.

I agree with most of the comments: he was never a father to you, why should you be a son to him?
Help somebody you can help rather than someone who has thrown his life away.
A good analogy I've heard is that of visualising yourself as a mountain climber and you are trying to get to the top just as everybody else. On occasions you pass people who you can help get up to your level, great well help them.
But if they start trying to pull you off, deliberately hold you back or don't even try, then it's time to sever that connection (preferably with a rusty mountain knife).
Once you are at the top you can spend the rest of your life helping people to reach your level, until then help those you can.

I fully agree with this statement - family is not about blood,it's about support,love and knowing you can count on them no matter what- it's not about living in fear.
My mate never met his real father but he's known his stepfather since he was 1 and calls him dad - his real dad doesn't matter to him bcos as far as he's concerned he never existed because he's been better off with out him.
You don't owe him anything.

I wouldn't give a shit about the father, I would go after the brother. Get a ski mask and a baseball bat, and kneecap his ass every time he gives you shit. By the fifth time, he might start to make the connection that every time he gives you shit a man in a ski mask busts his kneecaps.

I lost a lot of time with my Dad hating him, right up until he died. I wish my daughter had met him, I'm SURE she would have helped bring out the best in him.
