Did you even read what I wrote or do you just go off half-cocked?
I said that people that work hard shoudn't be punished. Punished, as in by high taxes.
I never said "all the rich people." Hard work does get you places. Look at Forbes righest people. A quick glance will show you that most of the top ten are "self made". Illegal activity gets you in jail. I can buy stuff and low prices at Walmart. You do realize that Walmart has added something like 5% to GDP beyond their own production by forcing the market to become more efficient don't you?
We aren't talking about the difference between 288 and 289 billion. If liberals had their way, the marginal tax rate for the rich would be over forty percent. So instead of what they earn, they only get 60% of that. Do you understand about disincentives? People who risk their money to take chances and start businesses won't do that as often if they can't capitalize from their success.

runninginplace: I could never be as stupid as you, even if I tried.
----------------------------------------------------
Inheritance is not taxed by income taxes and therefore I am not talking about it.
Insider trading and corporate scandals are also irrelevant as they are illegal.
-----------------------------------------------------
You were talking about all the rich people as if everyone got there through hard work. That is just not the case. Hard work does not get you very far in this country. Now illegal activity and birth status do, however.
>> These men have done more for this country than many other men combined.
Yeah, thanks Bill for the shitty software. Let me go buy a patch fix.
>> Do they deserve to be punished financially for working hard?
I'm real sure they are going to suffer with $288 billion instead of $289 billion.

Oh, of course it is the hard work that make people rich.
Inheritance = hard work??
Insider trading = hard work??
Coporate scandals = hard work??
I suppose by your logic, those dirty sand people deserve every scrap of shrapnel ripping through their children's eyes.

Are you deliberately dense or are you really this stupid?
Bill Gates, self made man.
Sam Walton self made man.
These men have done more for this country than many other men combined. Do they deserve to be punished financially for working hard? Then why would the take the risks, and bust their butts to innovate, invent, and make the US better?

IS anyone changing their vote based on the debates?
Some Kerry fan put a bumper sticker on my car today while
I was in the doctor's office giving blood. Lucky I vote
the ticket every year....if it was Bush I would have hunted
them down and had them charged with criminal mischief...

hell, i may personally benefit from lower taxes on the middle class if we stick it to the rich, but i don't feel it is the american way.
Nice how you brought up slavery and women which had NOTHING to do with the topic at hand. I was saying freedom of opportunity and the right to benefit from your success/hard work/risks are what make the US successful and a great place to live. Maybe if throw around enough shit, nobody will notice your full of it.

arsenal,
of course progress is good. But what has made the US a great place is rewarding hard work, innovation, and success. What is left to aim for if you punish hard work and success with high taxes and reward the lazy with free handouts?

Bush won.
-----------------------------
Right. If you are a middle-aged rich white male then I'm sure he did.
------------------------------------
Or if you believe in the idealogies upon which this country was founded and you believe people who work hard and make money shouldn't be punished for their success.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You are right. Just like our founding fathers we should all beleive that homosexuality is wrong and that women should work in the kitchen and produce children without any choice in their own life. We should also start slavery back up. Fuck all this 'progress' shit.
And we all know that the only people who make money in this country are the hardworking and honest folk who deserve every penny they get. God forbid they have to return any of the money to the system that allowed them to become so filthy rich.
(sarcasm galore - if you couldn't tell)

after the debate i switched to fox news which gave a slight edge to Bush
saying, "he came out strong with his A game," or something like that.
later i changed to CNN and they overwhelmingly claimed that Kerry won with
one analyst saying Bush came out weak but ended strong completely contradicting
fox
i don't know what this means, but i quit watching news
i am a poor white college student attending on pell grants, in my mind
Bush won the third debate

by the way, as i said in a previous post, i'll bet all the news channels slanted it like kerry won, while fox news gave equal praise to each.
just like after the second debate.
from earlier post:
After the second debate, a debate which most polls say was a tie,
CBS, CNN, MSNBC and most other major news networks gave a majority of time (and i dont mean a slight majority. i dont have the numbers, but most stations were like 65% 35%) to commentators that supported Kerry.
Fox News gave about equal time (i believe it was like 45% to 48%) to commentators that supported each candidate.
