Cars! The Cars, dammit! And The Electric Prunes WOO! Uriah Heep is one of my favorite groups. As far as "modern" rock goes (I assume 2000+?) I'm not very up-to-date with that. All I know is this anti-American punk shit has got to stop. Its not rock. Its...shit. That's my opinion. Rock n' Roll from any era is the righteous and holy way.

Oh, and also.. yes there are rumors that pink floyd may tour again.. thats what i've heard and read.. wooo woooo pink floyd. I'd see them even if tickets were $200
Just a thought.. Does anyone ever hear the few bands who sound EXACTLY like AC/DC? I know there are three or four of them on the local radio station nowadays.. but they sound like AC/DC except.. well.. they suck. thats basically it. Anyone know the guys im talking about?

I would have loved to see the tour w/ vader nile and napalm death.. right now theres a tour going w/ vader, napalm death, cannibal corpse, and kataklysm. Not too bad except i think vader dropped from the tour because of an injury in teh band (which sucks really) but none of em are playing in the northwest so i cant see them...

Modern rock, can rock, you just have to search around as is being said. Ephel Duath are amazing, as are the likes of Estradasphere, Secret Chiefs 3, Fantomas, Mr Bungle and i'm sure many more. Some of the older greats are still doing amazing stuff aswell, King Crimsons last couple of releases for example.
Alot of the shit thats around these days (especially in the more pop culture area's) is just that, shit. If you sift though the shit though theres still some golden rings to be found.
However if you want to take a slightly different perspective on the shit, some of it is produced absolutely amazingly.

I agree with you... but I think most of the bands you listed were more "metal" or "hard rock" than "modern rock", which is fine. I'm giving you a +2 for Opeth, I'm just saying that for fans of purely "classic rock" some of these bands might be a bit too much. Like I said in the other guy's post, I don't like to classify music, but that's how it seems.

Wow, someone quoted me...frightening. Anyway... I was a bit rushed for time when I made that comment about mainstream and yes, some more popular bands are very good. Metallica being a very good example, for one.
Its important to remember though, that everyone has their musical tastes. For instance, I find that I can't listen to a lot of bands that are looked at as "Rock Gods" today. Stuff from the 70's and 80's especially. I also happen to love Tool; but that right there is just my opinion and if anyone disagrees with me, too bad. Yeah, I overcooked my dinner, so I'm in a pretty bad fucking mood right about now. I like this post, by the way.

Stones, Hendrix, Beatles, Who, Floyd, Dylan, Zeppelin, Chuck Berry, Albert King, and maybe seven or eight other artists throughout rock history have been true greats. About 25 other rock/blues artists between 1940-1978 have made excellent contributions, but lacked the quantity of the previously stated bands. Groups like Steppenwolf, Cream, CCR, Funkadelic, and Santana.
Oustide of that, all other popular music is terrible!
And as for non-pop modern rock (hardcore punk, metal, techno), it's all shit.
Remember that band Jet that released their first album about a year ago? They had the right idea, but just weren't talented enough as musicians, and put a touch too much emphasis on style over substance. Oh, well.

I agree, before you equal dismiss every band that has made (not released, MADE) listen to some of the stuff that is out there. Not just the bullshit that gets airplay.
I dig alot of classic bands too, but good shit is around if you get off your ass and find it.
