The vows. The holy consummation of love. Now we will feel no rain, for each of us will be shelter to the other. Now we will feel no cold, for each of us will be warmth to the other. Now there is no more loneliness for you, but there is only one life before you. We shall go now to our dwelling place, to enter into the days of togetherness, and may our days be good and long upon the earth.
I watch you.
I watch you as you lay there, sleeping like an angel on earth. Your beauty never ceases to amaze me. Your golden brown hair falls gently over your delicate shoulders, peppered with little clusters of light freckles the color of sand. I move closer and inhale the intoxicating aroma of vanilla that delves me ever deeper into a chasm of your love when your hair brushes past my nose.
"In sickness and in health."
I watch as you lay there, eyes closed, and I imagine what it's like to look into those emerald green eyes once more and fall even deeper; even harder. I watch as your chest slowly lifts,
up and down,

up and down,
and for a second I am lost in the rhythmic pattern of your shallow breathing.
"For better or for worse"
I watch as you lay there. Your sporadic freckles across your slender nose. The only distinct feature of yours shared by our little Alison. A product of our undying love. The undying love sanctified in our vows.
"To love and to cherish"
I watch as you lay there, fingers bare. I pick up your ring off the dresser. The diamond remains vigilant and bright, even after 13 years. A symbol of togetherness, of no end. The words of the minister ring in my ears.
"The ring is a representation of the unbroken circle of love. Unconditional love has no beginning and no end. Unconditional love has no giver and no receiver - for each is the giver and each is the receiver. May these rings remind you always of the vows you have taken here today."
I place the ring back on the dresser.
"Until death do us part."
I watch as you lay there.
I watch as you lay there sleeping.
I watch as you lay there sleeping in another mans arms, now wide awake to the cool taste of metal between your pretty lips.
And I smile that my vows remained unbroken.
