Hi, Everybody! It's time, once again, to use the awesome power of math to predict something. Wanting to stay current, I'm going with the most important contest of the year: Game 7 of the Yanks v. Sox series. There's that other thing in November, but, hey, that happens every 4 years...the Sox haven't won the penant in 86 years.

...the Sox haven't won the penant in 86 years.
===============================================
Gotta say, that statement is very close to being right, but it isn't. The pennant is what you win when you win the league championship series. The last time they won it was in 1986, not 86 years ago. Funnily enough, they went on to lose to the Amazin's in 7 games thanks to the heroics of the loveable Billy Buckner.
Go Mets!
p.s. Other than that, fun post!

To clear up confusion, I meant World Series near the top in every case. My mistake. I know they've won the ALCS, and been in the World Series since 1918. Sorry.

Nerf, I don't think they had an LCS before the 70's...although the Sox have excruciatingly lost all the World Series in which they have played since 1918 in Game 7....
LET THE GAME 7 GHOSTS RETURN!!!!
GO YANKEES WOOOOO!!!!!

+4 for its outcome.

predicting the world series requires advanced study of fractional calculus...something I don't have time for...(yes, I have time for this)

i'm glad someone else mentioned that the winning of the above should've been winning the world series.

If you're insinuating that I plagiarized this from somewhere, well, you're wrong, and I'm a little insulted.

While i admire this whole math deal, the Red Sox are not winless in the ALCS since 1918. They simply haven't won a world series since then.
In '46, '67, '75, and '86, the Sox won the ALCS and made appearances in the World Series.

It doesn't look like your success function accurately predicted what happened in and slightly before (of course I am extrapolating your graphs a bit) 1999 at which point the Sox should have beaten the Yankees. There must be something you are accounting for in your model.
aahahaha

You forgot about averaging in the amount of alchohol and twinkies David Wells ate and drank in his Yankee career.

You get a +1 for explaining how that the Yankees will lose and a +1 for using scientific facts to determine that outcome. I love math!
