Ryan's head roared in pain with each beat of his heart. Great, heaving walls of agony taunting his head and stomach in perfect, pulsing unison. He hadn't dared open his eyes for fear of what he might see when he woke up. He knew he was in hospital, he had been conscious for about an hour and had heard doctors and patients talking amongst themselves. He had a vague recollection of what had happened, but he couldn't quite visualise it.
He decided he couldn't put off the inevitable for ever and began to open his eyes. At first he found it difficult to gather control over his eyelids, but after a few seconds he found himself staring up at a sterile white ceiling. His eyes stung, but the pain was nothing to that paralysing his head and stomach.
He took a look around himself and saw various tubes, machines and other medical paraphernalia surrounded him.
The curtain around his bed was closed and he could hear a faint muffling coming from the other side of the mint green cloth supposedly providing him with privacy. He strained his ears to hear what was being said, but the concentration only made his head hurt even more. He vaguely made out.
"Okay doctor, thank you for your help." The curtain opened and his father stood in the void of the curtain.
His old man looked tired. His once brilliant blue eyes were glazed over with fatigue, the whites, red and tear sore whilst the blue/black bags that hung underneath were puffed and swollen. He thought to himself how weak and feeble the man looked. Shoulders sagging and hunched, hair un kept and chin unshaven. But there was one thing about his dad that really stood out.
A smile. The man who he hadn't seen smile in years had the most loving smile spread across his rough face. Through all of the pain and hurt on the face of his father, that smile stood pure.
"My boy." Was all he could manage before rushing over to Ryan's bed side and falling to his knees, resting his head on his son's stomach. Ryan didn't know how to react. Should he comfort his dad? The man who had, weeks previous thrown him down the stairs in anger. Ryan sat and stared at his dad who was sobbing into his lap. Ryan had dreamt about moments like this for years. For his father to show him some compassion, the same love he had shown him before the death of his younger brother. And now that it was happening he just couldn't find the emotions to return.
"It'll make a nice scar." He said with pain stifled chuckles.
He placed his hand on top of his dad's and fell back into unconsciousness

Jason lay in bed. Alone and scared. He hadn't been to see Ryan in hospital yet. He was too terrified of what he might see.
Everyone had run away after Ryan hit the floor. Jason had cursed them all for being cowards, but he couldn't blame them really. Seeing a guy tear open his best friends stomach was enough to make anyone scarper, let alone a fifteen year old boy.
His parents had stopped talking to him, friends ignored him and the teachers didn't bother to teach him. He had lost everyone in one moment of madness. He couldn't forgive himself. Ryan will forgive me, he thought. Ryan is my best and only friend, he will forgive me.
"you get by with a little help from your friends.
You get by with a little help from your friends
You get by with a little help from your friends."
The CD player was skipping. Jason had forgotten all about the music and lost himself in his thoughts. He loved the song. He was never sure why exactly an old 70's song sung by a bunch of tired footballers had struck a chord with him but he had always enjoyed the song. He rolled over and skipped the track cursing the CD player as he did so.
His thoughts returned to Ryan. In the hospital bed. Probably covered in tubes fighting for his life. He was so filled with guilt it was unbearable. He couldn't face him after what he had done to him. He remembered that look in his eyes before he collapsed. That look of pity and sadness. The look that said to him why are we doing this?
He made a conscious decision to visit Ryan the next day. To tell him how sorry he was. He knew Ryan wouldn't hold anything against him. He knew he would be forgiven. But that didn't stop the guilt, the burning in the back of his neck telling him that he didn't deserve a friend like Ryan.
He looked forward to the next day, to see Ryan, tell him how sorry he was. And to make amends.
Ryan died that night in his hospital bed. Holding his fathers hand. Experiencing the love he had dreamed of for years.
To be continued............

Who said Ryan was the main character? He may have been the main character in the first 3 parts. This series is going to be MUUUUCCCCH longer than the last one.
Thanks for reading it anyways.

Well, I really don't know how you're going to add anything else to this series, but I'd like to see what you come up with.
I like this. In most stories, the main character dies in the end. In this one, the main character dies near the middle. I want to see how you continue this.
