regret turned panic
in waves
she swept into view, radiating cold, standing between my boredom and television static. i felt her speak, just below the blue roar that danced with shadow on our furniture. [deco; my taste prevailed if nothing else] she was monolithic, last chances smashing down like a sledge-hammer. her will shot through the coffee table and startled me to focus.

Her hair was silk, bright as flame, with the subtle scent of strawberry and vanilla. It took months to coax her from those colored contacts [tearing off another mask; to think we'd come so close] and reveal the brilliant blue beneath. She was azure and pixie dust. In kissing we'd exchange breath, souls mingling for only seconds in our mouths. Audrey tasted like forever and nothing less.

her hands met the front door like machine-gun fire and I suppressed my instinct to seek cover. My fingers clasped the handle in slow motion. I prayed to any god that might hear me.

Didn't suck. Made me think of when I cheated on my wife 2 weeks ago with her friend in our bed, while my wife was sleeping on the couch.
