If you are a bleeding heart liberal then -2 and go about your business. As usual, I will not hang around to argue with the stupid cock-suckers who have nothing better to do than camp an ubersite post all day.
I got an order from a US Army base in Korea today. They need it shipped out ASAP so I took the opportunity to make myself some bonus money. (who doesn't try to fuck the government every chance they get?) I contacted the manufacturer and they gave me a cost of a little over $500k. I figured my trouble is worth a good 18%, plus another 4% to help offset overhead and shipping. Your tax dollars at work right? (it sounds like a lot but since we are paying for shipping and insurance, etc. it ends up being a few thousand bucks pure profit of which I only see a percentage. This is why I am still too broke to be a republican yet make too much to get any of the democrat's financial aid... in other words welcome to the white man's burden. Anyway I'm fucking rambling....
The government has to use certain purchasing vehicles which they negotiate beforehand. In this case, they have to buy from me, a distributer, because the manufacturer won't sell to them directly. So already the government is getting fucked. (And so are you via taxes). But here comes the REALLY fucked up part...
I sit in a fucking office pushing these numbers, arguing with manufacturers, searching for these stupid random items with vague descriptions the government wants, getting stressed out when I have idiots blowing my phone up wanting to know where their shit is. I fuck around sometimes, but all in all I earn my wages. If I were to be selling this shit to Joe Blow's Business Inc. I would have probably charged him 30%, so the government is still getting a good deal. Tax dollars being spent liberally, yes, but not exactly wasted.
HOWEVER, the government is required to buy a certain amount from minority owned businesses. In this case, a company on an indian reservation in Oklahoma. But we'll get to that later.
SO... I send this guy with the Army in Korea a quote for about $650,000. The price has already been marked up about 22% from the manufacturer to cover my company's expenses (including my commission), but the Army has no idea how much I am paying for this stuff myself. As far as they know, it costs me $650k. Well, he gets this quote and emails me saying "Hey, looks good, we'll be placing the order today."
So I go about my business expecting to see an order from the US Army right??? WRONG. I get a purchase order from an indian tribe (which will remain nameless) for the exact same special ordered material at the exact same price I quoted the Army. So I call my contact up and ask him whats the dillyo?... He needed to meet a minority business quota so his boss decided to place the order through the indian tribe instead of directly through us. So I ask him how much he is paying them... $738k!!!!!
In other words, they (the indians) are getting paid 12% ($88,000) to fax me a piece of paper saying "Send xxx amount of part number xxx to US Army base xxxx" They are not responsible for shipping, not responsible for returns, and they have no customer service division. They don't offer warranties, guarantees, nor any other service to add to our own. To break it down for you... they are being paid $88k because they are indians. And that $88k is your and my tax dollars being wasted.
Even if they had done all the work, they would still have charged 30%+ since they know the government has to buy so much from them anyway. Meanwhile, I have to stay competetive and I sometimes lose business when the government buys an inferior product for a much high price simply to meet quotas.
This happens almost every day, in much smaller amounts usually, for every minority in America, including women and "african americans". Bush will not make it stop, Kerry will only make it worse. And if you are a minority, well, you were just born lucky I guess.
This is reality. Is it fair? Who am I to judge? I get my share every chance I get... but at least I work for it.

And, one company we are working with has a native-american woman owner, and they do the shittiest job sub-contracting anything out. They have 4 projects, all incomplete, and we cant do shit about it.

I also work for the governemnt, and we must contract out to the lowest minority bidder no matter how shitty a job they do. Do you actually think the president is going to stop that? Bush will not make it stop. Has he yet?
You know how much money the U.S federal government has? It's almost fucking unlimited. They sure have enough to pay your useless ass to be a fucking glorified NAPA secretary. It does not matter who is in office, the minority (by law, that no one will fucking change) gets the sale. The private sector works on cost and quality and the government works on cost and minority. And that's the way it fucking is.

You have a VERY good point, that I fully agree with, but you just had to be a 'tard @ the end with that 'blackie' comment. Not funny. I personally don't believe in reparations and am thankful for my freedom (the little we ALL have in this damn country.) I don't agree completely with the 'payment in blood' response, though. The war wasn't about slavery, as much as everyone wants to believe, and saying that the Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves is probably the biggest piece of historical bullshit I ever heard. Lincoln wanted to reunite the states, not end slavery. Ending slavery was only a beneficial by-product of the Civil War. Not everyone died for the same causes, though they were all fighting the same war.
