It's an election year again and true to form, here is my obligitory get your ass out and vote post:

I've done what I could. I went into the town office yesterday and filled out a ballot. I did my research before hand on all candidates on my ballot and ended up voting for members of three different parties. There was one resolution on the ballot, though I question the usefulness of my voting on it. I voted in favor of a non-binding resolution to legalize the use and growing of marijuana for medical purposes.

Resolutions are wonderful things, when they are binding. In these instances they are putting a question to the general voting population and hoping that they are informed enough to make a good decision. In this case, the resolution was non-binding meaning that the legislature can just ignore the results of the ballot and vote which ever way they please, which the Massachusetts legislature has a recent history of doing (in the case of an overwhelming positive vote in 2000 for the lowering of the state income tax which had been "temporarily" raised in 1989 due to a state fiscal crisis - pretty damn long crisis if you asked me).

If legislatures treat non-binding resolutions as if they were polls, what is the point of having them in the first place. Just take a damn poll. It would be cheaper. If they continue to just ignore us, eventually the population will realize that the legislature is treating us like a bunch of children who don't know what is good for them.

I don't think that this particular issue will be one that the legislature will go against the will of the people. The one's they really care about are the ones that affect their power and wealth, as did the 2000 tax reduction resolution. Even with the current system, though, it is imperative that you make your voice heard, even if it is only by filling in a little bubble.

So find out what is going to be on your ballot, make informed decisions about the candidates and ballot questions and take the time to vote. If you don't want to battle the Nov 2 crowds or don't think that you will have time to vote next Tuesday, vote early, as I did. Call up your city clerk or voting office, find out where to go and stop by on your way home from work. November 2 is just the deadline, not the only day you can vote.

And now we have "cuckingfunt" - great. (nice name, you must be a genius)

Little cuckingfunt -- another brand new UberAsshole getting his tiny little penis hard over the fact that he can randomly insult women on the internet and not get his scrawny ass kicked like he does waiting for the schoolbus every morning.

Newsflash: Real men don't feel the need to, and don't get off on insulting women - you spineless, pathetic jackass.

You are making it glaringly obvious that you resent women who are far more intelligent than you could ever be, and far better looking than you'd have a snowball's chance in hell to ever get near. Way to go.

Before I joined a party, I could only vote on the referendums during the primary elections. I can also say honestly that I have never voted a party ticket. And yes, I did vote for myself when I was on the ballot.

For the last 25 years or so, I've been writing in my OWN NAME in almost every important election battle.

THAT shows my interest in the system itself, and lack of interest in the candidates and the major parties.

Nicole I agree on the marijuana issue, as it helped
my grandfather deal with the pain of cancer.

It is unfortunate that our generation isn't more
involved with politics. Voting is important and
is critical for the future of our country.

"Well, if you went next Wednesday, they'd wonder what in the hell you were doing, first off."

AHAHAHAHA!

yes, I am laughing at myself.

You don't quite understand my view. I am not complaining about being ripped off, after all it is the American way and I am a proud American.

I think Clinton is a great guy, probably my favorite president, but I never did vote for him. Like I said, I am not going to ask someone to steal from me no matter how talented a salesman they are.

What would happen if everyone DIDN'T vote?

Well, if you went next Wednesday, they'd wonder what in the hell you were doing, first off.

Second, just because the particular person you vote for doesn't get in doesn't make the election pointless. I'd like to argue with you about disenchanted voters, reasons why you should vote, etc. but I have to run and will be out the rest of the day. I will say that views like those you have expressed make me ill. If you don't do anything to change the current system, of course their going to keep raping you. Sitting on your ass will do nothing but allow them more opportunity to do whatever in the hell they want. There is nothing that incumbents like more than low voter turnout.

So what you are suggesting is that I take time away from my schedule, go to the fire hall next Wednesday and ask someone to steal from me.

No thanks.

I would love to give this a -2 and insult you but you look like such a sweet girl that it would make me feel like a creep. I am not saying that I am not a creep, I just don't like to feel creepy.

On the other hand you may very well be a hardcore miserable bitter bitch with a sweet face.

I love optimistic idealists, I can sell them anything.

I've done my research on the local issues, and I like to think I'm going to go in there, well informed of what my vote on each and every proposal means.

More people should do the same.

and theres nothing you can do about it.
sure, you can try. go ahead and vote in some other people, but they're just going to do the same thing.

I'm in Canada, and I never voted. Wait, we were voting for premiers, the switch in prime ministers wasn't our choice. Never mind.

The point is, in Canada, it doesn't matter who you vote for, they won't have the power to make great change. The really powerful ones, like prime ministers, are just there so they can hoard all the money they can into a retirement fund, and buy private golf courses...or at least that's what Cretien did. I'd like to see what the former "Minister of Finance" Paul Martin's going to do with our money. He's also butt-buddies with Bush, so if he was in power right before Iraq, Canadian troops would be dying as well.

I should have also noted that Massachusetts' "fiscal crisis" continued through the 90's, one of the most, if not THE most prosperous decades of the century.

I've figured out the boy's punishment. First, he's grounded. No
leaving the house, not even for school. Second, no eggnog. In fact,
no nog, period. And third, absolutely no stealing for three months.
