The people that work at Barnes & Noble .com are dipshits! I don't understand how you can provide service that badly and stay in business.
I was a regular customer of Barnes & Noble .com. I liked them because their website has a very nice layout and is very navigable (unlike Amazon's). I buy a lot of CDs. They have excellent album reviews and artist bios. They also provide free ground shipping. Because of all of this, I started buying most of my CDs from them. Amazon is actually a few dollars cheaper, but because of the benefits of their website, I didn't mine spending a couple of extra bucks. That was before I had to deal with their customer service.
I was trying to get my Christmas shopping done, and I thought of a CD that both of my brothers would really like. (Hidden Beach Presents Unwrapped Vol. 2. It's a CD of instrumental jazz remakes of popular rap songs. I would recommend both Vol. 1 and 2 to anyone.) Anyway, Barnes & Noble had been bombarding me with email saying, "Guaranteed delivery for Christmas if you order by Dec 16," and "You must place your order by Dec 16 for free delivery for Christmas." I ordered 2 copies on Dec 14 after I looked in a couple of stores and couldn't find it. With all of the holiday activity, I was too busy to check on the status of my order until it was almost Christmas. Not only did the order not come for Christmas, but it didn't even ship until Dec 26! So, I couldn't give a gift to my brothers on Christmas.
I was moderately frustrated. I called customer service the day after Christmas. I got this guy who seemed like he never work a day of customer service in his life. Now I don't believe at bitching at the customer service representative because they are not the person who fucked up, but damn it's your job to pretend to care. Anyway, he eventually apologized for the "delay in shipment," assured me that the shipment was on it way, and offered me a $10 gift certificate that he would email me. I hung up feeling better.
About a week later, I received the package from Barnes & Noble. I opened it and it was the wrong CDs! The sent me 2 copies of Vol. 1. (I know I ordered Vol. 2; I still have the invoice.) On top of that I still never received this gift certificate! Now I was pretty upset. I called customer service back and got another guy who didn't seem to particularly care about my problem. He said the gift certificate was in the system, but it takes 7 to 10 days to process and email. He also told me that he would ship the correct CDs, and I could return the wrong CDs to them or to my local Barnes & Noble store. That was cool, but I asked if I could get expedited shipping since this was supposed to be a Christmas Gift and it's now January. He said sure, he could do that. Again, I hung up still annoyed with the situation, but feeling like it was handled.
Well I wasn't going to make the same mistake this time. I check the order on the internet to make sure it shipped. It had, but he had charged me for the 2 day shipping! Yall fuck up and don't ship my CDs, send me the wrong ones, and then charge me for the 2 day shipping! That's bullshit! Well since it was the 2 day shipping, the CDs got here pretty quick. I opened the package, and they sent me 2 copies of Vol. 1 again! What the hell is wrong with these people? And you know what, I still never received the gift certificate!
I'm through trying to get them to work right. I'm going to return these CDs and find the right ones somewhere else. Then I'm going to call and get the name of the head of customer service and write him a letter explaining the ineptness of his company and employees and telling him that they lost a customer. I really do hate stupid people.

LOL, I'll give you another good rating for being a good sport. I am alwaysway shady on ordering online, for this exact reason. Thanks for the warning. Barnes and Noble can go sit on a fucking tac.

I ordered Christmas shit for my sister at bn.com, too. I made sure I ordered it before the "guaranteed Christmas delivery" cut-off date. The son of a bitch CD still hasn't come in. I haven't even bothered complaining because I had a past experience where I complained about shitty service via e-mail and the response that followed about a week later was only an automated e-mail apologizing for the inconvenience and hoping I still decide to visit again. And me the idiot has, only because they have shit I can't find in stores and there is no sales tax where I live and the shipping is free. Other than that, they are inefficient, unreliable assholes.
