They knew that by attacking that country they would be killing innocent people. And that didn't stop them. To me, that is premeditated. That is MURDER. People are DEAD. Now look, killing isn't necessarily a bad thing. But the US war machine is not just about homeland defense. The USA is not so much a country as it is a big multinational company, and the army protects the business.
Bin Laden said something in his latest video like "We do not oppose freedom; if so, why haven't we attacked Sweden?" Bush's diatribe is utter bullshit, and Kerry is no better.
USA has very few freedoms actually, just a lot of people agreeing to the same rules. Freedom of speech is worthless without the freedom to act on your beliefs. Osama Bin Laden knows about freedom... the USA can't touch him. Or talk to an Afghan warlord with 19 wives, 20 poppy plantations, and a small army at his disposal. He is an experet in personal freedom too, believe me. FREEDOM is a relative term, not a blanket status.
America has a vested interest in being at war, that is why they created the Mujahadin/Taliban, AKA Al Queda. That is why they continue to place embargos on Tiny useless Cuba, and kick the shit out of Iraq. All these nations were "friends" that the USA created, then villified. DOn't believe the hype people, the president doesn't matter, the stock market does. For now......
North Korea is the #1 problem facing the USA today, Pakistan #2, Iran #3. All are nuclear powers out of control of teh USA. But if they told you the truth, USA would be in panic mode. And that's bad for the stock market, so it can't happen.
That is why US politics bore me and I think people who constantly root for party based candidtes etc. are completely fucked in the head. They do not care about the big picture, nor do they understand humanity.

Lesser-Evil-ism is, from what I understand, what has made US politics so ruthlessly right-wing. Someone says, "but it's a waste of a vote" and you're all screaming to vote Democrat. They're not officially or fundamentally any better, in fact some of the worst policies have been implemented under Democratic governments. In fact, it was the *REPUBLICANS* who abolished slavery. No shit, President Lincoln. (Sorry, my direct knowledge runs out here and I'm going to generalize a little.) So big movements like trade unions (1930's), or the 'Peace and Freedom' party (late 1960's California) fall on their arse when a left-ish Democrat candidate makes it as far as the *presidential primaries*. The only time I've heard of a genuine leftie actually running for President was when they were basically in an untenable position and were just about guaranteed not to get in.
Back to the point:
Revolution can, and does, happen at almost any time. Not coups, full out social movements. Therefore, America wanted to take its chances at being another oil sheik and make it 'clear' that it is 'unbeatable', before that happened. They've used WMDs/terrorism as an excuse, and that fell through. Now they've moved on to a very popular and proven strategy, as I mentioned in another context above: Lesser-Evil-ism.
To say that either side is less bad, when are/were both killing Iraqi people, DOES NOT WORK. In fact, the amount of support Saddam got from the US was what kept him in power, until they decided he was "evil" and slapped sanctions on the whole country - making the people so poor they couldn't fight back effectively either.
So the fact is that the US is now directly in *practical* charge, with even more resources to expend. That includes soldiers' lives, generally those from poorer working class areas with few job prospects.
Do you think it's a GOOD idea that the people who've been complicit in all this should still be allowed to pull the strings?
