Okay, it is about time somebody made some sense in an opinion about the war on terror.
First of all, let's face it, this is World War III. And just like WWI and WWII America did not start it, but will surely finish it. It is unfortunate that so many have died and so many more will die over the years, possibly decades, that this war will last. It is especially unfortunate many of the dead and wounded will be soldiers fighting on the good side: the side of freedom and equality. There is no avoiding war, if the US does not take it to Islam, Islam will continue to spread like an infection on a quest to rule the entire planet. Yes the tactics used in fighting terrorism are brutal, sadly there is no other way, fortunately good will prevail.
Afghanistan was the first and Iraq the second in a series of planned attacks to overthrow Islamic governments and eventually make such religious or terrorist dictatorial rule extinct. The strategy is nothing less than brilliant: take the fight to the god forsaken desert, far away from America, and pound the living crap out of the enemy with highly trained, well equipped troops. The plan is brilliant and it is working. The enemy is traveling from around the world to Iraq and joining together in nice little groups to be blasted to hell by the vastly superior fighters on the side of right. The strategy is genius. The Darwin award winners are traveling from around the world to drive car bombs on suicide missions in Iraq (not the US, or Europe). These losers will not be reproducing. Given the difficulty involved in otherwise rooting-out and convicting terrorists, the dividends of the victories in Afghanistan and Iraq are tremendous. Not to mention there are already two anti-Western governments permanently dismantled soon to be replaced with elected governments.
Despite undue pressure from self serving opposition countries like France, Germany, and Russia the US will stay in Iraq indefinitely. It is the perfect place to establish a huge and awesomely powerful military base in the Middle East. The plan is pure genius. Pull the US troops out of Germany and France (as they cry about the harm to their fragile protectionist subsidy ridden socialistic economies) and build -up in the Middle East. From that staging point Islamic Extremism will be systematically squashed with precision bombings, lightning raids, and unstoppable F-15, B2, and soon F/A-22 Raptor strikes. The presence of the US military base in Iraq will help bring an end to the dictatorships and/or fundamentalist regimes in the likes of Syria, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Iran.
Meanwhile the Muslim problem in Southeast Asia is not to be ignored. The Filipinos are determined to take care of their Malaysian problems in Mindanao. There is little news about the significant war being waged in the Southern Philippines. Muslims, led by those from Malaysia, are attempting to annex a Philippine island that is larger than Taiwan. It is not going to happen, ever. A lot of Muslims will die in the mountains in their futile stupid selfish quest to spoil life for decent peace loving people.
The Bush administration is wise to let the Russians take care of their own Muslim problem. In fact, the barbaric way the Russians mishandle their insidious fanatical murdering rebels shows how tactful and surgical the US Forces are in their operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Think of the alternative course of action that so many liberal pseudo intellectuals favor: use diplomatic means, appeasement, and sanctions. Yeah, sure, meanwhile hundreds of Policemen and Firemen are dying in the streets of the US and Europe along with thousands of civilians. Buildings burn and topple, bridges are blown-up, and chemical and radioactive weapons are used to subject innocents to slow painful deaths. I am not talking about Armagedden here, just one nasty cowardly cheap shot after another coming weeks or months apart. Attacks carried out by the kind of swine whose only tactical strength is their utter disregard for life. Attacks designed not to win a war, but to cripple an economy and prevent peace, happiness and prosperity. Attacks by men who hate freedom because freedom means equal rights for women. Attacks by men who hate freedom because they will lose their positions of power that they acquired through terrorism. Attacks orchestrated by power hungry men who convince sad poor young men and women to blow themselves up in the name of Allah when these same power hungry men protect their own lives above all else.
The moral of the troops in Iraq is high. They know their mission and it is not a mission to commandeer oil fields (as so many ignorant fools claim). No, it is not a mission to bring cheap gas to over weight SUV drivers. It is a mission to protect a way of life where there is hope and opportunity, where women are not treated like farm animals, where people are not executed for failing to obey religious rituals. The brave young Servicemen and women in Iraq are fighting to show the world that you just don't mess with the US. The world will remember this one for a long long time to come. History will vindicate current difficult decisions. In the future the whiners of today will claim they were patriots who helped win the fight while the real fighters will be hailed as heroes.
George W. Bush owns the biggest set in the world and I thank god that he was in office to lead an unwavering, solid, tough, clearly defined, well managed response to 9/11. George W. Bush did not start this war. But, he sure turned it around to the advantage of the good guys in a hurry.

I AM a little pissed at Kerry for his position on the new Osama tape.
From CNN.com on Oct 29:

Kerry told reporters in West Palm Beach, Florida: "Let me make it clear -- crystal clear: as Americans, we are absolutely united in our determination to hunt down and destroy Osama bin Laden and the terrorists."
He added: "They are barbarians. And I will stop at absolutely nothing to hunt down, capture or kill the terrorists wherever they are, whatever it takes. Period."

Now what he said is good, but it's not enough for me.
He makes no mention of the fact that he claims he wants to reshape world opinion of America. Which would have been an opportune time to do so, and drive that point home. Did we even know what they were so pissed about? People like the original poster are under the assumption that they hate us simply because we are American, and therefore Muslims are a plague. Well we know now from bin Laden's own words that the major problem is us having a military base in Mecca.
Kerry plans to scale down the military. Great. How about we stop being Team America World Police while we're at it and close down some bases. Like the one in, oh, I don't know, Mecca? Then bin Laden won't have any problems with us, and it won't be caving to terrorists because "we planned to do it all along." We'll still have to kill bin Laden of course, that's a given.
I have serious issues with our having bases everywhere. How many countries have bases in America? Zero. How many countries do we have bases in? We have over 700 bases in 130 countries. Why? So we can pre-emptive strike anywhere we want? No wonder everybody hates us.

I feel that my uncle would not be in Iraq right now.
I feel that we would have already caught bin Laden instead of taking the focus off him and putting it in Iraq.
I feel that if we hadn't yet caught bin Laden, a Gore administration would be reacting to last week's video in a "Oh, so THAT's what this is all about? Our having a military base in your holy capital, Mecca? Wow, we had no idea that would piss you off! You should have just said that 10 years ago, or at least after the FIRST WTC bombing! Why did you need to make cryptic statements like "We will kill the infidels" instead? We're still going to kill you Mr. bin Laden, but at least now we know what your problem with us was" fashion.
I feel that I would have no fear of being drafted, regardless of Bush saying it'll never happen.
I feel that having a boring President would be much better than having moronic one, even if that means the Daily Show would have been slightly less funny for the last 4 years.
I feel that my friends in Europe, Hong Kong, and Singapore wouldn't make fun of me for being an American, not unlike the way I make fun of my Canadian friends for being Canadian.
In other words, I feel that I'd like it a lot better without Bush.

Are you talking about American forces or terrorists? Because with the type of ethnocide (is that a word?) you're suggesting, the two become interchangeable.
Considering I can smell the conviction burning a large hole through your brain, I'm not even going to attempt to argue with you. Just please understand that the US is not the center of the universe, nor are we any sort of moral authority, so stop trying to preach to the entire world.

If you're referring to Afghanistan, that's just what any President would have done. He did make the right decision in going there ASAP, but he shouldn't get reelected for making a decision my 8-year-old sister would have made. I'll give credit where credit is due, but until I see a beheaded or captured bin Laden (which I'm half-expecting by 7 a.m. tomorrow), credit is due nowhere.
If you're also referring to Iraq, then you'd be wrong.
Regardless, the first two sentences are verifiable fact :)
