Like it or not, friends, today means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things.
Why would I dare say something like this, especially on such an important day for democracy in America?
Because there is no real choice today. Whether you're voting for Bush or Kerry, you're only ratifying decisions that have already been made. The US will be in Iraq for years. The cost of living will go up and wages will not. The people of this nation will be led like cattle the same as they are being led today--by the upper class.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, America, but the truth is that those who are really in power would never have an election for their offices. The groups that fund and own the Republican and Democratic parties are sure to make sure that their agendas are at least addressed, while your issues are going to get trampled on.
Smog is still going to be pumped into the air, soldiers are still going to die, more dissenfranchised blacks and latinos are going to be shoved into jails, and corporations are going to make profits from doing all of it.
Here's what I believe:
I believe that playing with some buttons behind a curtain is not what American democracy truly is.
Yes, voting is important, but its not the key part of being an American.
American democracy is about voicing your opinions daily, constantly being informed, and constantly being active in politics. It's about taking to the streets, petitioning, and writing letters to newspapers and congressmen.
Please, America, don't forget about politics when this election is over. Remember that this country was designed so that the only thing standing in the way of tyranny is public dissent. Please understand that it is your job as an American to constantly raise your voice on political issues.
Don't let your voice die down tomorrow morning. Keep it with you for your entire life, because that's what being an American is about.

I noticed the states with the highest rates of bestiality always vote Republican.

I do disagree a bit with your voting stance, but other than that you are right on. And I think you're also right that people have forgotten that, saying that election day is the most important day for democracy. All of the things you listed are important.

But the electoral college votes the will of the people. I think the author is right that America is bred to be stupid by the corporations in control of our nation.

Hmmm. I was going to -2 this, but I will ask a question first to see if maybe I'm feeling you. What do you say to the FACT, not the speculation but the FACT, that most voters in the US are not educated enough to make a rational choice on most political levels? Most do not know enough history, enough economics, enough anything. They can't find IRaq on a map. They can't draw a simple supply and demand curve. So what makes them qualified to participate MORE fully in politics, instead of LESS?

yeah i agree with the american politics
the only thing i disagree with is the whole wages will stay the same
if you raise the minimum wage to say, $10 an hour, over the 6.75 it is here in MA.. that means that you are paying the most unskilled labor to what semi skilled labor pays, that would push semi skilled to 14.25, or leave semi skilled at 10 dollars, thus making it so those wh have tried ot become skilled get payed the same as htose who have never had a job, and will thus go to the easier jobs... raising the minimum wage has a ot more to do with it than just giving some unskilled labor more money... like you said, look into the issues

The reason why Americans do not participate in politics is because (besides voting) they are not supposed to.
The United States has a ruling hiearchy just like every other nation in the world. While people are told to go vote, they are never told to take to the streets and take physical action to acheive their agendas.
The government doesn't want people to interfere in their affairs. Corporations would rather have you more concerned with waiting for "GTA: San Andres" and new Nike sneakers to come out than being involved in social matters.
The reason that people don't know enough in this country is because the system is designed to keep you as stupid as possible. Many adults watch the news, but depending on which company you're buying news from, you might get completely different facts.
I hope that the internet can serve as a tool for people to get unbiased facts in the future, without corporate or state interference.
