Yes, I'm sick of politics. I'm sick of people gloating about who won. I'm sick of waiting for someone to camp on my posts and rub in that the candidate I supported lost. That's not the point of this quick post.
I said a few weeks ago (on here and in conversations) that I would accept Bush as president with a minimum of bitching if there was a good turnout for the election. 105 Million last year. For something which should be important, that isn't very good.
I knew this year that Kerry was fighting an uphill battle. So I started watching the total vote count early on. As my friends railed about how much it sucked that Bush was in the lead early on, I watched impressive returns fro mthe East Coast. As the angry cries turned to dismay as Bush approached 200 electoral votes, I started to get excited, in spite of my candidate's predicament.
I went to bed with mixed feelings. I knew in my gut that Bush was going to win. All that was left was hope that the final tally of voters would inspire me.
I woke up today like it was any other day. I took care of my three "S"es. I got dressed for work and made some breakfast. Then I checked the election results. Still undecided. Just over 110 million votes counted. It's an improvement. It's not what I had hoped for. It's not what I was expecting.
By the time I wrote this, 114.2 Million votes had been counted. By the time absentee and provisional ballots are counted I am expecting over 115 Million.
115 Million people got off their asses, and a majority said Bush should be our president. I still disagree. But congratulations to him and those who worked on his campaign. Congratulations to Kerry as well and his campaign as well. It takes 2 to tango, and it definitely takes 2 to make a race this tight. As much people won't like to admit it, Kerry deserves just as much credit for bringing an additional 10 million voters out.
The people have spoken. And I'm going to shut up for now.

I agree with your sentiment about handling things in a mature manner. BUT, this is hardly a 'democratic' process. Hell, in my state you weren't even allowed to vote for certain candidates. Not that I would have, but it would have been nice to have the option.

Zak - Are you sure they didn't say 115 million. I think that is about the tally so far.

There's no denying Bush has won. But the BBC is reporting 150 million voters, and only 105-110 seem to have been counted. Are they wrong?

"In the days ahead, we must find common cause, we must join in a common effort, without remorse or recrimination, without anger or rancor. America is in need of unity and a larger measure of compassion," J. Kerry 11/3/04

"Don't you wish you could say the same?"
No, I'm happy to say that my man won and I'm acting like a child.
Nothing personal, it's just little consolation for a very long election year full of bullshit.

Sucks that we have to have this tight a race to get people out to vote.

Guess what jackass, Bush got a mandate, he got more of the popular vote than Clinton (who never got the majority) got. Bush got more than Reagan. You're upset because every idiot didn't go out and vote? Well considering most of those people don't know how to vote, never mind inform themselves properly on the candidates, you should be glad that not everyone voted.

I'm not upset. If you were even semi-literate you would know that I am happy that we got 10 million more voters out this year than the last one. My candidate lost, and I'm being a man about it. Don't you wish you could say the same?

that's a good point. I would have been disappointed if Kerry had won. But I'm also glad that so many people came out to have their voice heard. It is our duty to show Iraq and Afganistan how democracy can work.

Thank you for being a fucking MAN about it. I've seen too many assholes who bemoan and complain and look for online tickets to CAnada. When things go their way, they're thrilled. WHen things go against them, they want to jump ship and run. I tip my hat to a person not afraid of the democratic process, even if it produces results you don't like.
