"This is the end, Beautiful friend
This is the end, My only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again"
I wonder what they'll think, when they get in and walk downstairs. They're pounding out there now, trying so desperately to get in. The house is fortified. They have no idea how much so. It'll be awhile, it'll be awhile. I hope they brought a camera.
"Can you picture what will be, So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...stranger's hand
In a...desperate land
Lost in a Roman...wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane, All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah"
I'm wondering what I've left behind as a legacy. I sit here staring at the map, the map I made to remind myself.....no that isn't right. The map I made to show them, to show them all my mastery of the art. It is an art, you know. The world is the canvas, the act is the art. I am the artist.
"There's danger on the edge of town
Ride the King's highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby
Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake...he's old, and his skin is cold
The west is the best, The west is the best
Get here, and we'll do the rest
The blue bus is callin' us, The blue bus is callin' us
Driver, where you taken' us"
I have it mixed right here next to me. The cocktail to end all cocktails. It is my mignight drink, my magic elixer. It will take me from them just as they think they've gotten me. They will feel cheated of their conquest. They will feel that all the hard work that has gone into the quest has been for naught. They will find the map. They will find my life's work. They will be amazed. I am drinking now.
"The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...fuck you"
Oh, the things that I've done. Wonderful random things. Things others only dream of, fantasize about, never to realize how good it feels to make the dream reality. I have lived my dream, I have taken the path less travelled. I have succeeded where others have failed. It tastes so bad. My sinuses are burning.
"C'mon baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin' a blue rock, On a blue bus
Doin' a blue rock, C'mon, yeah
Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill"
Yes, to kill. To set souls free. To imagine those souls floating off into purgatory, waiting for release. It is something I've often wondered about, whether or not I would meet up with them. If I do, maybe I'll have another chance, a chance for double jeopardy.
"This is the end, Beautiful friend
This is the end, My only friend, the end
It hurts to set you free
But you'll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die
This is the end"
They have broken through. I am dizzy. it is time to find out if they are waiting.
It is time.

"the song wasn't intervening anything - it was setting the mood. It was creating more emotion - what you wanted the reader to feel."
You got it. That's the whole point. It's not that the words are as appropriate as the song is. I've said this before, I want the reader to hear the song while reading the post.
I do.

It's a funny thing, Mike.
After reading a lot of your work and your DoaM series I can't say I ever really became attached to the way you'd use songs to intervene with the story. And then all of the sudden I'm driving home last night and for no reason at all it hits me, and it's odd that it impacted me so heavily and that I'd never thought of it so clearly, that the song wasn't intervening anything - it was setting the mood. It was creating more emotion - what you wanted the reader to feel.
I was just thinking about a story I was going to write, and then I started wondering if I should post it on Ubersite, and then as I started to shift my thoughts back to my story this song came on the radio and I realized how perfect it'd go with my story. That's when I realized your stories that have song lyrics in them are truly serving a purpose. Probably more of one then most readers might imagine.
Thanks for that. You didn't really do much, but thanks nonetheless.

I second that motion. I'd buy about ten copies, because this is SO much better than American Psycho. I *hated* that book. I'd try and read it, get about three pages into a random sex/murder scene, skip over it because it was getting pointless ("...and then I stabbed her again. Because I could. I followed this with tunneling through her stomach. The I stabbed her. Then I had sex with the mostly dead body, and then I stabbed her again. As a final blow, I stabbed her." Blah blah blah blah blah), and discover myself in an even more pointless discussion of clothing or food. When you take up two or so pages describing what the females are wearing, full of brand names and whatnot, I get bored. Then I skip ahead, only to discover myself in the middle of yet another pointless sex/murder scene. Stir, repeat.
Can you tell what I just tried to read again?
And then I stabbed her.

Too bad it's over. I really wish you would have made one in between this and the last one, at least giving us a clue how he got caught, etc.
That might be coming, from a different perspective, of course.
Loren, if you happen to read this, I would like your email address. You can actually email me at bigmike1960.at.go.com.

Silly Bigmike, I'm, in Florida. I *am*, however, flattered that you would think that I was english. Because let's face it, their accents are cool.
I wasn't actually directing that comment at you Lady. I was spacing out at the time.
I've retired Doam guy. There will be no more wierdness from him. There may be some offshoot stories that come from the waves he created, I'm not sure yet. I have written myself in as retired as a homage to him. It was time.
To those that think I just posted a Doors song because I didn't have anything else to write I say read the rest of these from number one on, in order.
When I post a song within a post, it is my hopes that the reader actually hears the song in their head while reading. That's why I do it. It's not for filler or because I don't have anything better to do. It's because that's the way I hear it.
That explanation is for Smurfs.

I'll even take 'The Diary of an Ubersite Author on the MVA and What He Thinks,' parts I-XXXVIII. Well, I guess I can finally write my story about a psychotic killer and not be up against competition. Because I'd rather just be blamed of copying. Better you than someone else, I suppose...

GAH, today is the worst day ever. For this, I shall kill you BigMike, but it shall be in my own version of a Madman...one not so diaritically correct.
That is I meant'er say that I'll catch up from Part 13 to Fin on the 'morrow, as I hate reading something peice by peice and not knowing really what's going on each time, otherwise I'd be reviewing these things like crazy.
So you've got something spiced up next, right?
